We got Poppy as a stray in February and its very much true.. once a whippet owner always a whippet owner!

In bed last night the conversation came up of either keeping one of the dobe puppies we have at the moment.. or getting a whippet buddy for Poppy.

we wouldnt care for age/gender/looks but a like minded buddy for her so was thinking a rescue.

how much of a bad idea is this!!

Nope it's DEFINATLY not a bad thing :p

I want another whippet too, they are awesome dogs aren't they!
 
Not a bad thing at all. Despite having masses of human attention and three other non running dogs for company Finn has been a much happier whippet since he's had another whippet buddy. Both our whips came to us as pups so there was a bit of a wait for Tyg to be old enough to really be able to play with Finn (I must update my signature pic, that little pup on the right is 10 mths old now) but they are the best of friends. I'd actually thought about getting a third whippet but have decided against in case where two is company three's a crowd ... but a second whippet when you only have one? ... essential lol.

I said to the other half on the phone just now.. so dharling.. how about another whippet... his response "sure.. why not!!" Animals come in 2 by 2.. and only having one whippet seems an odd thing!

yes you must get another one...i would love another aswell as Bows missing Peggy to run around with...im sure i will one day

Shes a funny dog!! So ugly shes cute! we will play about and ruffle her up saying whos an ugly doggy and she just wags and barks, she has become alot more vocal since we first got her and looks ever so cute when shes attempting to chase balls and misses.. wipes out and then come back looking like shes saying MUM.. that was an OWIE!
 
you definately need more than one! sometimes the hardest thing is persuading the other half ;) ;) ;) but once they agree o:) o:) o:)

I really love having 2 whippets - so much better than just one. :thumbsup:

When we got Dolly as a pup we already had Bobby (Collie X). They got on well, but I feel whippets need the company of other whippets. We got Remmy when Dolly was 3, and they do seem closer to each other. :wub: :wub:
 
No its a completely natural thing when it comes to whippets. I have had my whippet just over a year now and have been wanting a second one for the last six months! :D
 
I managed to resist the urge for two and a half years, then this happened ...

I think its a great idea :D :D thats why in 2 weeks time we are collecting our new whippet pup :wub: as a playmate for our 10 month old :wub:

we were only ever having 1 whippet .......... number 4 arrives in 2 weeks brother to sonia's pup (whippets4eva) :D

Poppy (whippet)

OH!! And 10 dobe puppies!!

So a full house!

Took me a while to persuade OH to have a second whippet, as we would then have 3 dogs. In desperation I wrote him a letter :- because he absolutely refused to discuss having another dog!! I used arguments such as "I am not getting any younger (wrong side of 50) and haven't that many dog owning years left" ;)

The letter worked - he gave in and we got Remmy. :wub: :wub: She has been with us over 2 years now and he thinks she is so lovely. :thumbsup:
 
my OH thinks a play mate for Ellie would be great but have to wait till she has been spayed the hard part will be persuading him that I need 3 and then 4 :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
We've got two whippet litter brothers who are 8 months old and they are the best thing ever. My husband never had dogs growing up and didn't see the point (he thought they would be as pointless as my cat :( ;) ). After ten years together (yes, 10 years of asking, hinting, nagging, why didn't I divorce him, hmm?) I made it quite clear I would not be spending my life without dogs as I'd always had them when younger. I made an appointment to see a litter after seeing photos from the breeder and knew within seconds that Grover would be mine, especially when the little five week old bundle fell asleep on my lap. :wub: At this point I was quite prepared for my husband to go and just move the dog in :clown:

What we didn't bank on was my youngest son, aged 12, falling in love with a different pup from the litter....as a few of you know, he has social/communication difficulties and doesn't form bonds with anything really so the fact he loved this pup meant the world to me. I'd already given up work to look after my son so it was the best time to get dogs. We put the deposit down for two pups and then went work on hubby who at this point was still reeling from me getting one...

To this day I don't know how I did it - perhaps he was still weak from agreeing to one - but he did agree to the two pups. My son has gone from strength to strength (the dogs sleep on his bed now and he calls himself their litter mate :wub: ) has started attending school again (he was a school refuser) and will do anything for the dogs (he is quite oppositional at times with people). Husband is a complete convert (never thought I'd see the day) and tells people he'll only ever have whippets - he's a Yorkshireman so the idea of a dog that is completely practical and not embarrassing for a man to take out is heaven to him!

Whippets are miracle workers - everyone should have at least two!!
 
what a lovely story esty :thumbsup: dogs can be so amazing for children, I feel so lucky that I grew up having a dog in the family :))
