Think it's a shame for all the southern racers David,we're all lucky to have opens on our doorstep, must cost the folk from down south a small fortune in fuel to come up here to race.Fingers crossed another venue can be found down south next year :luck:

well said Karen our southern members have been aware of the situation with Harlow for the past few months and have tried unsuccessfully to find another venue for this year, hopefully something can be sorted for next time

The NNWRF thank them for their understanding and efforts.

but if venues are around the middle of the country it evens the millage sort of.expensive to travel where ever you live.north south whereever.

ok it was a southern open at portsmouth /harlow, but it was poorly supported possibly due to the travel. the top tables want full cards venues are expensive to hire to run at a loss.

there was a track at heathfield as cosmic kennels is the track still going or not. also dinky luckhursts at staplehurst was another track that was used. whippet racing is just get too far away now. i have to leave at 6am and dont get back until 11pm its just getting too far for us southerners now and too expensive. my dogs have not raced many opens this year in the southern area and now there is nothing on until next year. i now have to enter in lurcher races to race mine which is a shame. can we have more straight opens please in the south please as i am starting to loose heart here

Hi Lisa

the problem is there are only 2 clubs in the South of England and one of those are registered as Mid-West

with the BWRA. Even if these two clubs put on more opens people will not come and support them.

If I want to get bend trials for my dogs it is a 200 mile round trip for us to get to our nearest bend track

Bill & I travelled to Notts & Derby twice this year, it takes us almost 4hrs to get there, but it seems to be a one sided affair

If we put opens on in the south racers don't come from further up the country because they think it is too far to travel

I have never been able to understand the logic in that. But Bill & I will still make the effort to travel to Highgate, Notts & Derby, and anywhere else where the racing is to support the other clubs and both National Organisations.

Agree with everything you have said, we have the same problem up in Scotland. When we have one day opens they are never well attended its just one of those things. The problem is we HAVE to travel for racing if we dont we just wont get any, we have 2 clubs in Scotland one is just over an hour away and the other is 3 hours away for us but its just one of those things we have to put up with if we want to carry on racing.

Fully agree with you Lisa, thats why my Bally Boy only races at 1 or 2 opens a year. I am going up to the championships, staying in travel lodge and together with petrol and the long long drive it will cost me well over £150 and I know I cannot win with the competition in the class. Bally Boy never gets the experience to race so I feel the same, why bother.

Agree with Doreen also but what can we do, years ago we had lots more clubs and regional events. Wish those years were back again and I've been in whippet racing nearly 40 years and never had to travel like this. Thats why a few years ago I joined flyball clubs and a couple of my dogs were good at that so perhaps lurcher shows are the answer.
