We are in a small town in France. A small dog crossed the street to say hello to Timber. It turned and ran right under a passing car. It wasn't killed but I don't think it will make it. I'm not going to post the details because they are too horrible. But I feel sick. If we hadn't been there it wouldn't have happened. I know it wasn't our fault, the dog wasn't with anyone, it wasn't supervised. I keep seeing it repeating in my brain and I know I will feel awful about this for a long long time. And I dont know if Timber, who saw it too, will be traumatised. Sorry guys, I just needed to vent.

I don't know what to say. What a horrible accident.

Best wishes.

I completely empathise :( Exactly the same thing happened to me once. It was in our village and we were walking to see my mum in her cul de sac. As we passed a house on the opposite side of the road a little dog ran out to see our dog and went straight underneath a car. The owners were there and watched it happen too. I felt a bit responsible because my dog drew the other dog across the road. He would probably have stayed near his house if we had not gone past. He did not make it. The driver stopped and felt awful. Nothing he, or anyone, could have done (except to fence their garden - which they did do with the next dog).

So sorry for you.

Hugs

Pat

So sorry JoanneF, what a horrible thing to have seen. Difficult to remove images once you've seen them. But, you never know, perhaps he did make it.

Thank you all. It was the most awful thing I have ever seen. Timber seems ok today at least.

To see anything like that, would be on my mind forever. JoanneF how did you get over it or does it still effect you now

So sorry that you and timber have had such a horrible experience. I'm sure that with the passing of time the images that are currently stuck in your mind will fade somewhat- but for right now, I can only send you my very best wishes.

So sorry this happened to you. I'm sure with time, the experience will fade. I've been on the other end of something like this when, as a youngster in my first car, a dog ran out of a house when the owner opened their front door, and under my car. I was shaken by this incident to say the least. I stopped, and whilst the dog was badly injured, I took it to the vet with the owner (who I didn't know) and it survived. I'm sorry I can't think of anything uplifting to help you out, other than to say things go on and as cliched as it sounds, time is a great healer.

Hi JoanneF - how are you feeling now?  I hope you're feeling better.

Thank you, it's really kind of you to ask. I still replay it in my head, but less often. Usually it's when I am not occupied with other things so I have been trying to keep busy. And, a really charming thing happened - a little French boy was being taught good manners and his mum had him come over to out table in a restaurant and shake hands with Mr F and give me a kiss on each cheek. It was really sweet and if I start thinking about that dog, I try to switch the thought over to the little boy and that helps - even as someone who isn't normally good with kids!

Glad you're feeling better.  But what's this?  Parents teaching children manners?  I wish they'd export some of that to us.

Ah, that's lovely Joanne.  A really nice experience to help replace the sad one.
