Hi Kelly and welcome. It is hard to be when we loose our dogs and taking another one on is often good way to ease the pain. What sort of dog is Max? How old is he? How are you getting on with him?

Hi is a lab x doberman x so a big dog we have had him three weeks today and has come a long way in his training as he hadn't had hardly any . His gone from being overgrown puppy to a better mannered dog he still has the odd moment but he is getting there he is 4 and a half he also is unpredictable with other dogs as he didn't have much dog socialisation so he is on lead all the time most people are good and will call their dogs away you just get the odd idiot who tells me he should be muzzled when his great big entire mastiff type dog comes over off lead and pretty much to towers over max so then max reacts but it's my fault and he should be muzzled ! Sorry to rant so apart from that he is pretty amazing dog .

Welcome to you and Max:) And don't apologise for ranting about owners who let their dog go up to other on-lead dogs - many of us here feel your pain!

We have a post on dog reactivity you might find useful: Dog Reactivity Apologies if it just tells you what you already know though.

'sigh'...yes....those 'they know it better' people are everywhere. Although my current dogs don't have issue with other dogs approaching them, I've had such a dog before and I swore to myself that one day I won't hold my good behaviour standards anymore but will back answer by telling those type of dog owners to learn to keep their dogs on leads if they cannot bother teaching them/practicing recall at all  Sometimes you just have to snap at them back.
Saying that....if you are ever in doubt about your dog's behaviour, it is not a shame to use a muzzle when the situation calls it...even if it is 'for just in case'.
But it is still early days with your new 'pooch' and even if it is not a pup anymore, dogs are still capable to learn lots of new things.

Hi and welcome to you and Max.

I get very assertive with people who think its okay for their dog(s) to charge at mine. I understand absolutely what you are trying to manage.
