I'm after some information.
I have a Black Standard Poodle, I would like to travel this year down to the Devon coast for a day out, is it possible to take my Dog on the train? where about's would he be placed on the train and do I need to sit with him for the journey? (which isn't a problem) I mostly travel on Cross Country Trains, would I need to use some other train for my journeys ?
Do I need to contact the Train companies first ?
Living in Oxford was thinking a day out in Devon for him and me so not talking hours to get there..
Thanks for any information
PS any advice on Pet Welcome Hotels down or around the Devon coast ?

Welcome Kasper :) There's a section on taking pets in the web page here which should help: National Rail Enquiries - Luggage & animals

I can't help you with finding a hotel, but we had a lovely week in Croyde on the north coast of Devon a few weeks ago. You can't take dogs on Croyde beach, but Puttsborough beach was within walking distance, and Saunton Sands a bit of a longer trek away.

I've travelled with dogs on trains without a problem. They just sit at your
feet. Obviously they're not allowed on seats!

Welcome @Kasper

I’ve been on the train with my Labrador many times :)

we’ve always sat in the carriage where there there’s a big space at the front for bikes and prams which gives him enough room to lie down and not be in anyone’s way.
