My name is Dami, and I'm going to be a proud owner of Phoebe, an 8 week old chihuahua cross JR. I will be collecting her on Saturday and I couldn't be more happy and/or nervous. I haven't many friends, so having Phoebe as a companion will be great!

Welcome. I noticed on another thread you spoke about taking her out after her vaccinations - so, not to hijack that thread I thought I'd mention here that as long as she isn't on the ground, it will help build her confidence if you carry her out to places before that. If you can get a pet carrier, that is ideal but failing that you can use a sling or even your arms or tucked into your jacket. She will build experience of the world from a safe place. The risk to unvaccinated dogs is from other unvaccinated dogs and the faeces and urine of rats so as long as she isn't on the ground she will be perfectly safe.

To add - I love the name Phoebe - you cannot say the name Phoebe without smiling.

Thankyou! I actually bought a sling to carry her around in and it arrived yesterday. I know there aren't many places to actually go where you are allow to take your dog, but even if it's going to the vets in the sling, holding her in the car on the way back from collecting her (I won't be driving btw) and stopping off for a break at the services (letting her engage with us instead of being in the car alone for a few mins while we eat.
