Hi, this is my first post. I wonder if there are any greyhound lovers amongst you. I am giving very serious consideration to getting one, and have one provisionally picked out. I previously owned a whippet who lived to a ripe old age but I feel sorry so many greyhounds need homes and apart from size they seem very similar. Any views most welcome.

Hiya.

welcome to k9...

i am a very proud owner of greyhounds.. i have 4 with me at home. i'll like to let you know that they make wonderful pets at home, so loving, loyal companions.

if your thinking of homing one i'd strongly recommend them... they are great with children... mine even share their home with 2 cats... have you been to a rehoming centre then? let me know how you get on and if you do home one... it'll be great to see more on here.. all the best.

Hi julieleigh,

yes - went to a kennels today and saw some very nice animals. They were all very well looked after (Mead Racing Kennels) and have several retired greyhounds to rehome. All I have to do now is build the fence!

thats good news... its so hard to choice as they all are so beautiful... i've a bit of allsorts... 1 is fawn & white, 1 is brindle, 1 black and then the other is white & black... all got different characters and personalities... they are all so wonderful.

Then i've got 2 blues and another black still racing...

I have a greyhound and a whippet x i rescued both of them.

Would love a pure whippet ;)

Hi there - I've literally just registered, so this is my first post too! I see you have a greyhound section here! How nice. I'll go and investigate it.

As to rehoming a greyhound after having whippets, you may wonder if your new dog has a sleep disorder! :p I've never owned a whippet, but know people who have them, and it seems they have a lot more energy than most greyhounds! Depends on the age and the dog, of course, but greyhounds spend an awful lot of time sleeping.

I have two retired racers. I think I will probably always choose greyhounds in future. :))

what are your dogs names?... they are such loving, gentle natured dogs aren't they... just adore them all!
