For a while now weve noticed that Murphy is really happy and much more relaxed around other dogs so we decided to find him a brother.

We had tried adoption via a rescue for ex -lab beagles but they have been very un-helpful so via another organisation we found George who is 18 months old
His owners loved him very much but their lovely freestanding cottage is being compulsory purchased and bulldozed to make way for flats. They are forced to move and they cant take George with them to the new place.

Today we drove down to meet with them and George. Id spoken to her on the phone and given her the link to Murphys FB page so that she could see just what kind of life George could expect with us.
It didnt make saying goodbye any easier but at least she knows he will get a good life and she can follow him via his adventures on FB.

Murphy and George have been having a great time running about playing tag all afternoon. Im hoping they calm down enough to sleep tonight..
So there it is, introducing...Gorgeous George..

How sad for his owners but how wonderful for murphy. ...look forward to hearing about their adventures :D:D;)

Wow - what a lovely surprise. He is rather gorgeous and I am sure he and Murphy will have some fun times together. His owners must be sad and angry at what has happened though - but nice that they will be able to follow his progress.

Well George had his vet check yesterday and everything is good.
The two of them played until about 10pm last night just chasing each other and playing tag.
We gave them a good walk and wondered how bedtime would play out thinking that maybe at that point George would get homesick even though we have his blanket from 'home' but he came upstairs ignored the basket with his blanket and plonked himself on the foot of our bed where he stayed all night dreaming happy doggy dreams.
This morning we have been off to the woods and met cows and deer for the first time.

That's lovely - knowing he was nicely settled must have reassured you and Mr MM that it was a good decision to have him.

Indeed. When we adopted Benny he had been abused but he still spent the first three weeks with us standing on a chair looking out of the window and everytime a car pulled up he would wag his tail only to stop when he realised the people getting out were not his 'family' it was heartbreaking.

That George seems so happy is a great relief. As I type he is snoring with a full tummy and a good walk behind him..

Meanwhile the lab-beagle rescue have just posted on FB that they have another 11 beagles just released and need homes for them, theyre asking if anyone can offer a home please get in touch.

Well...
About a month ago I had seen one of their public appeals and wrote an email. It didnt get a reply so I tried phoning but the number rang out time and time again so I emailed again and got no reply again. So I phoned again and finally got through.
They told me I would have to go to one of their intro afternoons and they would add my name to the list if I confirmed via email that I would be going ..I did but when I arrived at the info afternoon my name wasnt on the list and the woman was a bit off when she realised I had a foriegn name.
After the nearly 4 hour lecture we were told that if we wished to go ahead with adoptiion we could mail and arrange a home check. I asked which email to send to as my other emails had 'gone astray' the woman looked at me as if I was an idiot and said 'the @info one ..its on the website if you look'
When we got home I emailed. Said how much I had enjoyed the afternoon (slight lie) and that we would still love to go ahead with the adoption and would like a home check... Nothing! Ive tried phoning again and nothing it rings out.

Thats the point that I looked at other options and came across George.

Its a great turnout for us and for George but I feel bad for the lab-beagle that might have been and for the others who wont be adopted not because people dont want to but because the rescue seems quite biased.

Oh I do like a happy ending. George's previous owners must be so happy that he's found the perfect home and seems to have settled right in. The lab beagle rescue sounds a little... odd.

Well its been a few days now and we are settling into a routine. walks walks and more walks.
George is a happy easy going dog who likes company..His relaxed attitude already seems to be rubbing off on Murphy which is great.
He is a typical hound, nose to the ground and off he goes . Sleeping preferbly at the foot of our bed.

I knew he was tall when I first saw him but Im now wondering about his true identity..
He is about 48 cm to the shoulder nearly as big as Murphy (53) hes lean yet weights 20kg. and his bark doesnt sound like the classic beagle yodel his is more of a deep rounded woof.

Not that it matters because he is here to stay but I cant help wondering if hes something of a mix? Any thoughts?

I thought a splash of foxhound in him ...he is gorgeous. ...murphy looks like he is smiling ...so pleased everything is going well ;)

What a sad and happy story. But at least he will be loved and has a lovely pal to play with.

Oh he’s handsome, he has a lovely kind face, hope he and Murphy get into lots of adventures together x

They play so much George barks to Murphy then they chase and play wrestle no growls or nastiness gently pulling legs and collars then when tired they briefly lay down together before starting again .. I don't think weve ever seen Murphy so relaxed or happy.

I just came across this! You got another dog :) George is gorgeous they both look happy and settled together, really pleased for you that it's going so well x

Its been two weeks now and the fun and games continue... Gorgeous George aka Curious George or naughty George is setteling in. He and Murphy still play every day, its a game of pin your opponent down and grab his collar.. Then you get a point and start over again, they roll around the floor like two mad wrestlers. If at any time the game gets rough and one yelps they break, catch a breath and then start again, there is absolutly no nastiness involved. Im chuffed.

Only when it comes to toys is Murphy a bit naughty and jealous. So weve taken toys out of the living room and they only get a ball or rope when out then its no ones territory.
Feeding times are hectic George inhales food,so his bowl is empty in 15 seconds and Murphy is still busy cue a small sliding door to the kitchen and problem solved. He has also adjusted well to the diet, Murphy gets raw and KVV
( Barf? complete raw) no problems with that change George loves it.
George will chew, hes had OH's reading glasses and the corner of my bird spotting book but now we know we can keep an eye on things.
Murphy is barking less , reacting less , is less jumpy and is very very happy.

It sounds like he has really settled in. Did the previous owner want updates?
