Hi,

We have an eleven year old Black Lab called Dylan, who is a total joy. As he's got older, he's had gradual increasing arthritis in the hip joints. Last year, he was prescribed Cartrofen injections to help with this condition and it provided fantastic results at the time and for a good 12 months afterwards. He still get regular maintenance doses, but the condition is very slowly getting worse and he's finding it increasingly difficult to jump up on to things (he does do so, but it takes some effort). This includes the rear seat of the car.

Every year we go on holiday to West Wales and Dylan thoroughly loves this, especially when we hit the beach and he can get in the sea!

I'm really concerned now that unless we do something soon, he's going to be unable to get into the car.

I've researched dog ramps and dog stairs, but the majority of these seem to be for access to the boot of the vehicle.

Our dog always goes on to the rear seat, but because the rear door doesn't open 90 degrees, it would seem that a ramp (even 40cm width) would not fit at a right angle to the seat.

The other issue is that the wheel arch precludes the possibility of putting a ramp there as well.

Does anyone have a similar situation and/or solution?

My wife suggests we try to get him into the boot using a ramp and then through to the back seat via one of the fold down sections . . . . but as we carry things in the boot when on holiday, this might be a bit of a pain having to move stuff around all the time.

I have been looking online with limited success - sorry. I know I have seen a set of steps that fold flat which might help, but I can't see them now. I will post if I find them.

A step would be best. You can buy them or you may be able to make/have made a custom model.

Also have a look at Vince the vet website . They have a supplement called supple and sprightly and its a new generation of treatments for joint problems. All the ingredients are ethically sourced and it contains hydroganised collagen . It has made a huge difference to my almost 17year olds mobility
