Hi

My 7 month old whippet has a small patch of fur shaved off her tummy area for an operation about 2.5 weeks ago.

How long should fur normally take to grow back for a whippet? From what I've read it differs. But if there's anyone out there with a whippet, please could you let me know how long yours took to grow back? After 2.5 weeks there is very very minimal regrowth so far.

Many thanks

Mine had an op on the 29th July, you can still just make out where she was shaved.

.

Smooth-coated dogs lose (& grow) hair year-round, but hair growth is greater in Spring & Fall, when follicles are more active.
I think U were too late for the fall “spurt” of hair growth, but new hairs will come in, slowly & usually fairly steadily. :)

If U had a Siamese cat who had a shaved area on the body, the new hair would come in the color of their limbs, & owners really freak over it. It’s because of the temperature differential - the shaved skin area loses heat, & is temporarily cool, close to the temp on their cooler limbs & extremities: paws, ears, tail.
Once the new hair is fairly well in, the skin warms up, the pigmented hair drops out gradually, & the fawn body coat finally comes in. :D

Not a whippet, but my little mixed breed boy took just over 3 months to regrow his fur when it was shaved for an op.

This is Roxys leg today. It was shaved right back to the skin 23rd of August so not that long ago and it’s full growth now. It was where all the lighter brown bits are.
