She was my best friend
She made me smile when I awoke
She kept me warm when i was asleep
She was with me in the morning in the cold winter breeze
Or on a summer evening in the hot sultry air
She caught me rabbits and coursed me hares
She caught foxes with bravery to spare
She ran through wide rivers or jumped the highest fences
She put her wellbeing last with just one command
And she only asked two things
Can i chase it can i can i please
Can i eat it can i can i please
All this is after she had nicked the pie off my plate
Just as i turned my back
And before i could turn back around
She was out the back door
Slamming it into her
God i love my lurchers
How i miss my fly
But soon i will have another lurcher
And go through it all again
I will treasure every second of it.
