From One Whippet To Two?

We've got littermates, though we had them both from eight weeks so haven't the experience of adding one later. It was hard work as pups, but no more than having one pup, I reckon. Ours are both boys and were very close until their hormones kicked in
Roscoe had always been our top dog but Grover started challenging the role. As they are so evenly matched (exactly the same size, weight etc) it didn't seem like it would resolve. We had a couple of stonking fights (no blood, just fighting) over food so now feed them in separate rooms- one of them eats more slowly than the other and the fights started when Grover went to finish Ros's food for him. They also started to not tolerate each other in their personal space. Anyway, two months ago we had them both neutered and they are back to how they were before. We still feed them separately but they now cuddle up together like they did when they were younger, are more laid back and affectionate with each other. They are also better on walks (on lead, off lead and with other dogs) and generally not so hyper. They are now 13 months old.
I think you will be fine with two, especially as Alfie is so laid back and already neutered. As they are a boy/ girl pair, she will be the boss anyway, so no challenges. I'm not sure if they know it's their sister anyway, when they are re-introduced. Grover had no respect for motherly boundaries (if you get my drift..) when he had a reunion with his Mum at about 9 months old!!
You are right about it being extra money, not really extra work - if you are going for a dog walk anyway, you may as well have two, it doesn't make the walk longer lol.
Good luck with it. I keep talking about 'when we get a third dog...' but my husband isn't having any of it. (The third dog on my signature is my Mum's pup.)

two are so much more fun than one
I had a rescue whippet X bitch aged 3 yrs and then rescued a cross breed bitch aged 1 yr without any problem at all and they became best of friends. There have not been any problems whatsoever, rather they became partners in crime! In May last we took a Citycroft Oasis pup, Gracie and this has changed the dynamics but, again, there haven't been any real problems. I know I wouldn't have just the one dog again, the right two will make lovely pals. Good luck. :luck:

We've never had a problem having two litter sisters at home (plus Mum, a half-sister and another mother/daughter pair :- ). What makes these sisters so great is that they're like chalk and cheese .
Jessi is rather cheeky, and prone to temper tantrums (the full blown yapping bark and bed scratting), when she's in season she will stand a wave her tail and bark for "attention" :b . She knows what she wants and will blummin' well get it ! Talli on the other hand would gladly spend days and days on end in her bed in another room, coming out only for dinner and toilet and not bothered if she's touched by a person from one day to the next. She sits down on her bits when she's ready for mating and nobody is allowed near. Of course when she does come out of her bed and wants a stroke it's all the nicer, we call her "the neurotic dog" as she is terrified of even the word "toenails" let alone getting them cut.
Yet when there's something happening that upsets the balance at home, or they're in a strange or intimidating environment you'll rarely find Talli and Jessica separate, they stick to each other like glue and seem to really bring strength and bravery to each other. It's great to know that if there were ever that terrible situation where the dogs needed care from someone else that they would have each other to help them through it :wub:

:wub: Awww Talli and Jessi are GORGEOUS!!!! And great to hear that two girlies together (or a houseful in your case :lol: ) are able to live in peace . We are thinking of two girls if there's enough in the litter to go around but otherwise a boy & girl will be ok....they're both going to be neutered anyway

Yes we have (w00t) I had a wee chat with my boss and basically TOLD him that after my sort-of breakdown in the summer I was not prepared to work every hour and keep chopping and changing my hours and be at everyone's beck and call and that I had come to realise what it was I REALLY wanted in life and I WAS getting a dog in the spring!!! But then news of these pups came up and Neil and I have worked it all out and cannot wait for them to be born and come homeIt sounds like you have you decided to go ahead with your two pups afterall Gill? I just feel like singing and dancing and shouting it from the rooftops ROFL NOT that I'm excited or anything, you understand! :- I had a text this afternoon saying it looks like it won't be long before Misty has her pups so now I'm just on tenterhooks with EVERYTHING crossed!!!! :lol: Willing Misty to have enough wee girlies to go around.....though Neil IS now thinking of names for boys as well as girls so one of each will be ok too I have to rein him in and STOP him from buying loads of puppy stuff on ebay as I don't want to jinx anything until the pups are safely here and growing well.....if that makes sense? :bOh gawd....I have a whole JUNGLE of butterflies in my tummy!!!!!!!! :lol: :b (w00t)
