Any thoughts on whether hanging fly paper in the front room would reduce their numbers enough that Jasper wouldn't get upset by them every single evening in summer?

Yes. It certainly saves my sanity. With a livery stable next door flies come in as soon as I open a door or window. I don't want to breathe in fly sprays so I use fly papers. The downside is that they do look horrible.

Agreed! I'm hoping to hang a couple at the far edges of the windows where they'll be mostly hidden by the curtains.

The trick is to hang them in places the flies like to buzz around . Agree they look awful but they are better than the nasty spray stuff

I have an electric fly killer it works great:)

Does it make a zappy sound when the flies fly into it? I wondered if that could freak Jasper out. I used to have a tennis racket-type one you could swipe them with but it didn't work!

It makes a ping noise, when we first got it Floyd would look around to see where the noise was coming from but after a few weeks he just ignored it this is our second Summer using it and have to say it was the best £15 I ever spent:)

We too have an electric zapper it kills them instantly..the fly papers are horrible as the flies can take a day or 2 to die :(

I've just bought a zapper as I didn't realise they were so cheap.

I'm just hoping Harri and I get used to the sound of it zapping a fly as at the moment we are both jumping every time!

You will get used to it:)
In the evening when it starts getting dark then it will spring into action:D

The fly paper has worked for us... inasmuch as we've had hardly any flies from the moment I ordered it! Though after Kara's comments, I'm wondering what the best way is to euthanase them without making a horrible mess...

The one I used was impregnated with a poison so they died very quickly.
