Good evening
Firstly my two dogs have all their relevant tests before I even considered breeding them! They are both toy poodles 2 years old. This is my girl 3rd season so we wanted to have a litter from them
So tonight they tied for the first time
It was approx 30 mins
Straight after my girl went for a went for a wee
Now my question is and it may be a silly one to some but does her going for a wee effect her chances of falling pregnant
Thank you in advance for any replies
 
Most female dogs do this. As excuseme says - it won't make any difference.
 
Let us know how she gets on ...
 
I'm just interested in what health tests Toy Poodles should have, BVA tests and DNA tests. You should get some lovely healthy puppies if both parents are done as you mention.

I got the tests done via pet genetics which is approved by KC which came back all clear for PRA etc
they tied twice now
 
Post pics of your two if you can ...never see poodles around here as they are always crossed for a designer cross...poodles are wonderful dogs ...we always had toy poodles around when we were kids..the only downside is they all had horrible breath despite having great teeth

Ok so this is an odd one
I’ve had two ties and wanted to try a third today
Both more then willing but my boys kept missing the target and getting it through her legs! But seemed to think he had the right place and was trying to ‘finish’
Is that normal?
 
Why would you want to try again after having 2 ties ...I would quit whilst you are ahead and see what happens....
 
I was doing 3 over the period
I was recommended to me by the vet. If 3rd unsuccessful then so be it
 
Isn't the recommendation to have two ties, two days apart, to assess the due date?

I hope you don't mind me saying but a lot of your questions make it seem a little like you haven't done an awful lot of research before doing this. And while it's great you did a DNA test, did you have them hip scored?

Do you have a mentor?

If I’m honest I’m asking questions to get other people’s point of view rather than just one person. Yes I did. I’ve done a lot of research and no expense spared on all the tests required and I’ve been to my vet multiple times for progesterone tests etc. I’m keeping a diary of every thing ties her eating etc. I’m not some one who takes things lightly at all in the slightest! I just wanted to meet new people with different views nothing wrong with that! Other wise what is the point in these forums!
 
And no amount of research can prepare you for certain things that may arise and let’s face it it’s not text book and every dog is different
 
You have obviously put alot of thought into it ....nobody knows everything especially with their first mating and hoping for pups ...at least you are breeding pedigree poodles ...(like hens teeth here)and not crossing them for designer dog and making lots more money

Thank you I love my dogs. I’ve had many people ask me to use my boy for their dog to cross breed and I have always said no. I wouldn’t ever stud him out due to the transmitted diseases they can get. He will only ever have my girl. I’m not in it for the money that’s for sure! X

Well, I'm not experienced with breeding, but I am going through our first time with it right now. But yes...I would say 'missing the target' is normal. Dog are keen, excited and in a rush to 'deliver'...nobody is perfect each and every time ;) Particularly if the dog is not that experienced with these things..it takes practice....;)
As for 'how many times'...there is many different approaches to this. I was told that as long as the bitch is keen and accepts it, it can be done several times given a day or two in between for the dog to rest and get the semen levels up again...and if I remember right, this was what my 'book of bitch' say as well.
My girl had two good ties couple of days apart, day 8 and day11 so we left it to that. It is of course late for you now, but there is canine ovulation tests available to target the mating to exact egg releasing 'slot' in the bitch's season....something to consider should things not work out for you this time round.
 
Why should you doubt the health of your chap, you have said he has been health tested! And your girl too.

If your dog was properly DNA tested (vWD1) and Hip dysplasia and Elbow dysplasia tested with a clear BVA, prcd-PRA and Glaucoma tests he would be quiet a sensible dog to use as a prospective sire for lot's of girls. And could help benefit many.
Results would or could be shown on the Kc health test finder
To my knowledge, no number of vet checks can provide you with any of the above results for official certificates.

Very often one mating with a tie is all some girls get, and results with the required pregnancies.

I don’t doubt my dogs health and considering the tests were KC approved I’m guessing they were properly done! I don’t want to stud him but thanks for your input
