Try not be too hard yourself as these incidents can happen..its happened to me on a number of occassions with ferrets(now i know my whippets arent ferret proof and luckily both ferrets survived)

unfortually my chicken wasnt so lucky..on mothers day this year while little hen was haveing a dust bath in the garden Bow thought she fancied a snack and took her with my middle son watching...its heartbreaking as they are also my pets but whippets are hunters and could never be 100% trusted esp when you have prey like pets..yes i still have a few chooks but im very aware how quickly my whippets can turn..im sure they know they shouldnt!!

RIP Rolo

only just seen this, don't come in here often....

really sorry for what happened to your little bun...we have four rabbits and two whippets(was 3) and Moonpig and James the beagle and I must admit I do allow them near the rabbit runs unsupervised and they none of them take much notice of the rabbits but I wouldn't totally trust mine near a hutch.... I have recently built runs onto the front of the hutches so the dogs cannot get direct access.

one bun has been brought in for the winter :b ...my mini rex Moo, because she has sore hocks...she has the run of the spare room during winter months.

I have previously had a couple of near misses with buns and dogs but recently my husband didn't shut the spare room door properly while we were at work but luckily neither of the whippets noticed

you need to put it down to being just one of those things and not dwell on it, your dog didn't do wrong, he just did what came naturally. The thing is, you'll never do it again so don't feel too bad, we all make mistakes.
