Dogs Missing

I too want my dogs tattooing and was wanting it done on their inner thigh but I was wondering if the dog had to be asleep to do this? Also how does it work? do they have a national database or something and which groups actually check tattooed dogs e.g. RSPCA, vets etc? Thanks in advance!

i'm not sure if they will actually allow the tattoos to be on the thigh (i'll find out when I train)

when the pups/dogs are tattood they get 2 metal disk with tattood and the database phone number on it (in case the public find them) but vets/RSPCA ect all have the contact numbers and should check if they get a stray even if the collar/tag have been removed.

. It makes me angry that anyone can think that they can come along and take a dog from owners premises. I would be destroyed if my dogs are taken but god help them if I was to catch up with the culprits. :rant:

They are not just taken from premises, I know of several that have been taken from dog shows (obedience/ fly ball) :rant: And the owners have had to take a trip down to the local traveller camp to get them back!! We have to make sure our vans and crates/cages are locked up!!

Also one poor little dog was stolen, the thieves had cut away the cat flap to get her out of the house and when they saw she was tattooed - threw her out of the car - <1yr old - promising search and rescue dog. Died in the owner's arms on the side of the road, devastating

1000's of dogs are stolen/go missing and yet you still see people leaving them tied up outside shops :angry:

Our dogs asked if he can have a tattoo of a bitch in Stockings ect on his thigh and Race & Show accross his  front toes  :b

On a more serious note, I am with Helen totally paranoid

If a small amount of hair was shaved off somewhere disceet and a tatoo was put there would it grow back normally and would the tatoo show through so the owner would know but not everyone else, just a thought :unsure:
