Dog flap / dog door useage

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, and so I apologise if I have posted this in the wrong place.

I have a one year old Westie that is toilet trained, and lets me know if he wants to go out.

However, at my partners house, he has a dog flap/ door installed, and I'm trying to train him to use it.

He now does use the dog flap, but comes to get me to ask permission to go.

Does anyone know how I can train him to use it automatically?

I think it will come in time, he is probably just used to asking you to go to teh toilet....

Thanks, I just wondered if there was anything I could do to encourage him.

Maybe do the thing where you are one side of the door and he the other and keep encouraging him through for a fuss or a treat..

I guess the more he uses it, the more inclined he will use it when he needs to?
