Apologies if there is already a thread for this, but I just wondered if anybody has been through the process of getting a boarding licence and if there is any advice than can be given?

I have been doing dog walking and now have just applied for my boarding licence. I really want it to go well. The lady from my council sent me all these questions and list of rules, it all feels a bit overwhelming. I have been told to create my own sheets and get the 'clients' to fill them out with regards to vaccinations etc.

I understand they need to make sure dogs are safe but there are so many bad owners out there. It feels like any little thing out of place could ruin the whole thing.

Also my council are charging £91. I would be interested to know what yours charge.

Do you mean "home boarding" or are you thinking of opening a kennels?

Home boarding. Not kennels. Want to house one dog at a time, possibly 2.

I did not know you needed a council licence. Having said that it now comes back to me that a neighbour looked into it and found the regulations too onerous. I think you have to have double gates (shut one behind before opening the one in front) and high fencing etc. Insurance would also be required.

When my daughter was small I did a lot of home boarding. I have to say it is very popular. One client worked abroad a lot. She left her two German Shepherds with us from Monday to Friday most weeks. I still get asked, years later, if I would consider going back to it.

Thanks :) Yes there is a lot involved. I think its kind of crazy. The other option is leaving your dog in the house all day on their own. They would rather that compared to someone that doesn't have the correct gate :)

This is my only dog, so I would be in all the time and not let them out in the garden on their own anyway. Hopefully it will go ok. I've sent off the cheque and form anyway.

Hopefully they will give me a bit of time to get the house and garden tidy before they drop round.
