Hi everyone I thought I would ask you for some advice. I have just come in from walking Kenza and when we were out we were walking on the path of a busy road and a dog ran out of nowhere and started to attack Kenza. I had her on the lead and was conscious of the busy road and trying to divide them. Thankfully cars stopped and People got out, pulled the dog off Kenza and tried to find its owner. I wondered if there were any techniques I could use if this ever happens again. It has shaken me up a bit.

I'm sorry this has happened. The things you can try include stamping on the ground and firmly saying ”home”, ”off” or similar; or throwing some high value treats on the ground away from you.

Hopefully Kenza is fine and the dogs are both safe from the road. If you recognise the dog, definitely call the dog warden. A single report may not be effective but several reports will, you may not be the only person this has happened to.

Thank you I will do this if it ever happens again. I just panicked and could not think straight. Treats are a really good idea thank you

Hope your is ok, I just hate offload aggressive dogs, I strike first and talk later, it will get me in trouble one day but we have to protect our onlead well controlled dogs., I’ve had to physically kick dogs off on 5 occasions over the last 20 odd years and on 3 occasions there owner was built like a bodybuilding champion , I tend to walk with a walking stick from time to time so that helps .

I carry a water pistol in my bag ....

What an awful experience.

Are you in UK? Report to the dog warden and the police if so. Then if the dog has previous 'form' or attacks another dog, they ought to record the incident, and if they recognise the dog from other reports, they should go and see the owner.

What you can carry to protect yourself depends also on what country you are in. A walking stick can be useful.

Thank you all for your help. I think I was a bit clueless as I had not thought of this scenario happening. Yes I am in Uk I think I will rake my son when I go back to that area.

Don't call yourself clueless - it was a horrible thing to happen.
