Diet change

Have you asked the vet if they've seen anything similar recently? If a lot of dogs have this, you'd think that they'd have seen a few.

Hurrah for the firm poos!!

What absolutely great news! I’ve been thinking about you both.

Haven’t heard anything where we are, but you reminded me of the time our retriever, years ago, was so ill, the vet thought she had multiple organ failure. Bloods were fine. Decided it was something she’d eaten when out that had made her very ill. She ate everything and anything. Though, thinking about it, wouldn’t be so with Dennis, as bacterial source ruled out?

Thanks for updating. :)

Hello all,

Just to give an update...

So nothing major showed in bloods or with the ultrasound which is good.

He’s actually done two firm poos today and yesterday with some diarrhoea in between.

Vets wants to do another poo sample.

Since this has all started I have heard from lots of people that they know a dog that has been suffering diarrhoea and sickness.
Maybe there’s a bad bug going round? and it’s taking poor den along time to shift.

Has anyone heard anything?

Great news it seems he's on the mend. I've not heard of any bug going around the likes of poor Dennis.
Hopefully he'll keep improving and get back to his old lively self very soon.

Great to hear :)
My 3 had the same bug, all had really nasty diarrhoea with blood in it , Marley got it the worst took him ages to get back to normal .

It’s all over our local dog Facebook group that there has been a terrible bug going round. We must have had the same here as you @Whippylove

Over 35 comments about different dogs

Some even had to be hospitalised and put onto a drip they’ve been so poorly!

Our vets didn’t mention anything to me about a bug... but lots of comments are saying their vets informed them.
At least we ruled out anything serious and Dens had an MOT!

How is he now, Josie? Are you going to try changing to raw again, or are you settling with what has worked for him in the past?

That’s great news, though you would think it might have been first on the vets’ check list! ;)

Aww bless Dennis  hope he’s soon back to normal , they certainly know how to worry you :(

He’s so much happier this last week!

He’s been throwing his kong at me regularly, coming up stairs at 6am so he can watch us sleep with anticipation of when our alarms go off and it’s breakfast, enjoying his walks and just being his happy self!

No, I’m not going to try again with raw @JudyN - didn’t work out for us in this household! He’s on a complete wet mix which isn’t the most premium of brands but it seems to suit him.

Yes, funny they didn’t mention it @DixieD but we are glad we did all his other tests to confirm it wasn’t anything more serious.

Josie i'm so glad to hear he's back to his old wonderful self. It's also good to know that's he all fit and well and you can rest easy knowing that it was only a bug and nothing sinister.
Enjoy your beautiful boy .

I think this ^^^is one factor that has to be taken in to account when people ask 'what is the best food', its all very well trotting out what experts say is the best or what works the best for others (mine also have raw) but in the end its what works best for your dog that is really the best..
If Dennis is happy and healthy thats all that matters..

Aww that’s lovely news, just have to do what’s best for them  they’re no different to us regarding foods that upset our systems. I can’t tolerate broccoli etc....such a shame:D

I agree - I was getting myself so worked up about it but I’ve kept him happy and healthy so far for 12 years so I must be doing something right!
