i had an imaginary friend called miss beeny..my mum had to lay a place at the table for her..apparantly mum could hear me talking to her for hours...i can still remember what she looks like now....is this common or was i just bonkers??

 Oh no this isn't odd at all.

But, because I've been dog-daft since birth (and wasn't allowed one (and hasn't that turned out because I now have six (w00t) ))... I had two imaginary dogs; a German Shepard and a Cocker Spaniel. I also had a field of one hundred horses and chose one to ride to school every day. Mostly it was a silver stallion called 'Steed' but there were many different colours. I would be cantering to school calling out to my dogs to keep up :b (now we're talking bonkers).

Of course if my mother caught me at any of this I got a hard clip round the ear for 'odd' behaviour! (My mother actually tried to thrash the imagination out of me :( ... but it didn't work mwhaaarr harrrr harrrrr!.)

What lovely stories these are though.... let's see the photos!!!

Fantastic stories :D and yes a therapist would have a field day with some of our tales!

I had a threadbare and eventually armless and legless teddy. Also had an imaginery friend (Joansy) who was very handy as she used to take the rap for my childhood misdemeanours - talk about split personality

That reminds me of the time my niece was sent to her bedroom when she was about 5 years old for some misdemeanour, and she shouted down to her father ' I hate you you bars@*%d!' Her father said 'What did you say?' and quick as a flash she said to her imaginary friend 'Sarah, don't you ever speak to my Dad like that again!'

That's one very bright girl! :p

This is Tedward, he was given to me by my aunt & uncle for my very first Christmas all those years ago :- " which makes him just over 48 years old :b

He used to have proper eyes & nose but they fell out so I sewed him some new ones when I was about 10. He was a lovely golden colour when he was a cub but most of his fur has worn away with :huggles: .

He has moved home with me twice & now lives on the dressing table.

Once when I was a horrible little brat I threw him in the bin in a tantrum & then had to root through all the rubbish :x to get him out again. I cried buckets & kept apologising to Tedward for throwing him away.

I also had an imaginary friend, when my mum was handing out choccy biccys I would always ask for another one "for my friend" I always was a greedy sod.

My sister and I had toys handmade for us when we were little, my Mum used to teach Gymnastics and one of the girls made them for us. Adele's was called George, he was made of Blue flowery material and I had Suzie she was made of Red stripey material. Suzie was so special that even as a child I wouldn't play with her, I kept her safe in my room for a cuddle when I was upset or poorly.

My daily ted was "Singing Teddy" he was repaired several times and his clockwork winder broke so he stopped singing but he was still snuggly, he accompanied me to the hospital when I split my head open after tripping over a step and hitting my head on the corner of an exposed brick wall.

I also had "Pink Ted" since I was born, he was the most special, when I first walked on my own I used to carry pink ted with me everywhere. He lived under my pillow. :)

Then one day my Dad for reasons only known to himself took all the teddies and cuddly toys out of the house, put them in a black bin liner and threw them in the back of the bin lorry. Mum was at work and me and my sister were at Primary School. I think I was about 7 years old at the time and was absolutely devestated that I'd never see my special things again. :(

After that I promised myself I'd never get attached to anything ever again so when it was taken away from me I wouldn't mind  . Now what would a phycholigist make of THAT :sweating: .

well an analyst would probably say you keep people at arms length as youd be scared of getting too attatched and are bad at making relationships work for the same reasons :- " i bet you dont let it stop you loving your pets though?

The wonderful story here about Peter Rabbit reminded me of my beloved 'Donkey' that I had as a child.
My Mum knitted him when I was about five and I was devoted to him.  He was stuffed with old tights and had a red blanket/saddle and a red scarf.  He was only ever called 'Donkey' although Mum tried to make me call him Dobbin???

He went everywhere with me and slept with me too.  He had a little yellow harness and a lead at one point and I used to tell everyone he was a dog (I wasn't allowed to have a dog).  I'm sure he was dragged around by his lead too :teehee:   He had his own bowls with some biscuits in them and I took him for walks.  I remember him being repaired several times; lying across Mum's knee while he had a leg sewn back on once    :clown:

Once or twice he was lost and I remember losing him once for several days and screaming the house down.  I was sick with loss for days.  One evening Mum and Dad took me to the library and there he was sitting behind the counter in among all the tickets.  Apparently I was unable to speak with excitement and could only point at him and jump up and down.  The library staff had to ask my parents what was wrong with me but luckily my Dad spotted him and he was given back to me - what an incredible feeling!  I even sneaked him into school occasionally and he lived in my desk without the teacher finding out (w00t)

I still have him.  His threads are very thin and his shaggy mane is gone.  But he still has his red blanket.  He now lives under the bed in a box and I'll never part with him. :p

So, anybody else have a story?.............

Yes, i had this thing about my mothers lug holes, i sucked and tugged on the buggers till they where down to her knee caps, takes all sorts though dont it

Hey...Let's not go down the analyst road (w00t)

I remember as a child my dad's girlfriend buying me a cuddly lion!

I'm still scarred thinking about the sight of my mum in our garage-hacking it to bits!

Christ-what are women like eh?

Never had a lion since-Lol

Karen

(and don't even start me on donkeys......) thats another story

:D I had a huge teddy bear that went everywhere but by the time he 'left' he was threadbare and squashed as I use to sleep on him - Mum decided when I left home she would get rid of him  I was going to come back for him and was so sad. My eldest daughter had an imaginary friend for many years - I've recently read an 'angels' book which puts another slant on these imaginary friends :huggles: so perhaps we're not all bonkers!!

This is a lovely thread!

When I was 7 months old, for my first Christmas (in 1961!) my Grandad bought me a teddy. Its body was made into a red jumper and its legs were red tartan trousers (these jumper and trousers were part of it, they couldn't be removed).

Well I loved that teddy and I loved that Grandad too. I still have my teddy; he is very worn, threadbare in places and as a child I used to pretend to change his nappy when my Mum was changing my baby sister's nappy. So teddy has very shiny bits around his bottom :b where I put vaseline and talc on him (like Mum did for my baby sister!) before pinning a nappy on him!

He's the tattiest looking thing now but I would not swap him for anything. My Grandad died in February 1986 and I still think of him every day. :huggles:

The whole thread has reminded me of some of the children I looked after when I was working as a Nanny. One little girl, from a very well to do family I might add, had 'spitting ted'. Lovely Gund teddy bear, lovely child other than her comfort thing was to spit on ted and rub her pudgy little two year old fingers around in it! :x I'm sure a psychologist would have a field day with that one, but she loved that ted no matter how bad it smelled!!!
