I have just entered one dog online for Windsor. With one stakes class and Car parking  (Dont remember paying that before for Windsor) it came to £27. One dog £27 :( How do people manage to enter 3 or 4 dogs at every show these days?

I would love to show my veteran but the cost is too much now as most shows dont allow you to enter only the Veteran stakes at reduced entry fees, you have to pay the same as if you were entering for CCs.

With petrol, food etc it is really getting to be out of reach. I gave up the horses because of the cost.

Top that off with making a bad mistake with the judge you enter under and it becomes a costly day out.

Where have all the Companion shows gone to also??

I paid £25 for one entry to SKC... then there's the 200 mile round-trip, food etc.

Yesterday I entered an open show with another 200mile round-trip (most shows are for me) and my entries including catalogue were £6.

(For Mike Gatsby doing the group too....)

Oh and today discovered grass for horses round here is £1200/acre to buy or £85/acre to rent for the year!! I lost my only horse thru an accident years ago when it was costing all I earned to keep him. No chance of another horse now I'm a starving artist....... ;)

Also, on of the local 'companion' shows round here is more fixed than any Ch I've been too!

I know there used to be stack`s of them .

Thats where I learnt my `skills` . :b

I think the KC charges have gone up for the licence and what with insurance they probably think its not worth it :(

I think Champ, shows here are cheaper than abroad, but it does cost an arm and a leg dosnt it , and what do you get? A piece of card if you are lucky ;)

Thays why I pick carefully who I do and dont waste my money on :D

The trouble is Jax so many of the judges are playing games these days and dont judge the same way twice. Keeps the entry for next time. Soap box coming out again.

There are four of us going to Birmingham Champ next week in the same car. At least we will have a laugh there and back even if we do nothing. Jan

I've noticed that going to any show now has become more about the day out than the competition.... I hope that's a sign I am mellowing with age :b

SKC is going to be a picnic with a friend and her family and dogs, photographing IGs, photographing whippets, meeting new people, shopping for a couple of things, catching up with people I only see at shows, spending time loving, cuddling and grooming and kissing the Supermodel without being mugged by the rest of the pack, singing and giggling in the car, eating silly pink sweeties and not thinking about filling in my tax return.

Oh, and I'll be in the ring with the best whippet on the planet and taking it all hugely seriously.... for about 20mins.

:luck: please please please please please let me qualify for Crufts 05

It cost enough here too. We pay about $10 for a Champ. show. That is with local judges. A Royal, or full Overseas panel will cost up to $20-25. 8)

Considering the exchange rate of the Australian Dollar and the British Pound respectively... You make my day again Cartman!!!

On a side note - the cost of showing is going up IMO. Not only entry fees, but mostly petrol, accommodation (I seem to require sleep to function nowaday :b ) etc.

BTW, Parking here is FREE. Royals are at a fee though. We dont pay eith entries, just park where we can.

In Adelaide, we may even have to walk up to 100yards to get to the hound ring. Oh, so far.........

Cant you afford a trolly to put your dogs in /on

It has been known that at some shows one gets to see the judge's unmentionables within the price of entry.

Dawn :D :D :D

(w00t) How much? I'll stick with my £3.50 race entry i think :D

Here that is free. But we also mention it. 8)

Well I think you are very lucky compared to us on the Continent.

10 days ago I was in the Netherlands, it costed me 57 Euros per dog  (I entered 2) which makes around 40 English pounds. That was a CACIB show. luckily my dog Mojo was CACIB and BOB).

Last Saturday I was in Belgium for the whippet club show under P. Gilmour. It was the most awfull show conditions!!!! Very disappointing for us and I guess very disappointing for a judge as we could hardly show correctly the dogs... It was 35 euros per dog (I entered 4 but showed only 2  ).

Sunday I was in France in a CACIB show again and ther it was something like 40 euros per dog :x ........ But there Mojo went BOB again :) !!!

In France we often say that we, show folks, are crazy to spend all that money!!!! :b

The biggest shows like for example the World Dog Show are the most expensive.

Sorry but we would have to ask someone from the continent about this. The results were sent to the mesage board by Mrs Delabelle from Belgium (Di Mahana whippets)

Well thank you very much Henrik for having answered, I just came back home an hour ago so didn't read your replies until now...

So the working class on the continent is for either racing or coursing dogs. The FCI rule is that the dog has to participate to an international competition in which you can win CACIT (racing) or CACIL (lure coursing) (which is for racing/coursing the same as CACIB for shows). So to have the opportunity to be entered in this class the dog has to be placed in at least the half of the number of entries (??? I hope this makes sense in English  )

For example you have a bitch and at this competition there are 40 bitches entered, your bitch has to be placed at least 20th.

From what I've heard the working class in Sweden is only for lure coursing dogs, isn't it Henrik?

Well anyway I guess Patsy Gilmour must have been very disappointed by the show ground... It was really the worst one I had ever seen!!! It was very frustrating for exhibitors. I don't blame the belgian whippet club, it's a very recent club and they always do their best to create a "good mood"... But still frustrating...
