castration

hi all my dog at 15 months has been misbehaving abit & the vets said castration might be an answer , but i fear it may lead to a ruind racing career, any imput gang? ???

All i can say is.....my boy was castrated as he had a retained testical that started to cause him problems and as i have bitches i thought it would be better in the long run to have him completly "done" :0 I got told that he would become less "aggressive and keen" when his hormone levels dropped.......but he's raced the best that he's ever raced this year and anyone who knows Jacob can tell you that he's as keen as ever (he's mental at racing :0 ) and he is still always the last dog off the lure as he lies on it and fights everything off it. :b

Paul,

do not get you dog castrated to calm him down! My experience is that it has no effect what so ever! If it's an undescended one OK do it, but otherwise your wasting your money.

hi scott just testing the water on it, i dont think i will its just what the vet said to my missis, my bigist fear would be putting on wheight & his ability going down the pan thanks for advice.

Hi Paul, Don't know if your vet has mentioned it, but there is a chemical castration (in the form of a injection) that can be given to see if it has the desired effects that your wanting from full castration. The injection is short acting, it lasts about a month I think, maybe worth looking into.
