On 6th Sept I received the Canny Collar from http://www.cannydogcollar.co.uk/ who were offering a 30 day money back guarantee if not delighted. By 10th Sept I knew Jacques wasn't having any of it, and had to return the item with a covering letter asking for a refund.

Despite 4 emails via their website and 1 phone call (which was the wrong place) (!!) I still haven't received any communication from this company, or needless to say my refund.

Has anyone else experienced this poor customer relations? I have PayPal investigating now, as I paid via my PayPal account. Hope these people are genuine! (w00t)

I have no experience of the company but can tell you that I've used all different varieties of head colalrs - canny collars, haltis, gentle leader, dogmatic etc and dogs always take a long time to adjust to them, some accept them after a week of walking, some need them put on for a second, given a treat and taken straight back off again for weeks. One rescue I had took about 3 months to stop struggling to get the collar off! I would persevere with associating nice things with the head collar, they make walking so easy once they are accepted.

Hi Chaumsong. I appreciate that with time and energy, almost anything is possible with dogs but for me, the continual jumping up, clawing my back and legs and somersaults weren't an option! Most of the dog training is down to me, with the menfolk following on once the task is done/achieved. I am not physically strong enough to handle Jacques when he is in full flow! Sounds crazy but he has tremendous strength when anxious, and these arthritic joints don't do well under such strain! Under such condition I had to give up after a week.

My frustration at having such poor service from the company mentioned has been magnified as you can imagine.

It's become more the principle than the money but I'm determined to get the service they offered!

I presume you have been to training classes with him? I had to persevere with the cannicollar on my dog, he took quite a while to stop trying to get it off and walks reasonable well now, at least I have full control of him where as before he was pulling all the time.

Stupid really, in the show ring he trots round on a loose lead, no pulling. It's just on our walks he behaved badly. Much better now.

Quite Bertha.

At last Canny Collar guy has replied but only to say they never received the returns! I must now take this up with the Post Office! Great! We all know how useless they are! Looks like £15 down the drain as well as disappointment with the dog!

Thank goodness our new grand daughter is behaving herself!! Back to her birth weight at 10 days old and Mum is now wearing her old jeans!!!! (Hers not Ava's of course!!) ;)

I know that this probably doesn't help you at all Sadie, but I have found that the different head collars produce completely different responses from different dogs.

My Shepherd Molly is very well behaved but can't STAND her Dogmatics head collar, but is quiet as a lamb in a k9bridle, whereas one of my friends has a dog who won't tolerate a CannyCollar but who happily wears a Dogmatics.

Please don't give up on all head collars because the first one wasn't a success.

Thank You eingana. W e have a young, fully qualified behavior specialist visiting this Thursday, and she is bringing a Gentle Leader head collar with her. We aim to help Jacques with his car phobia as well as lead problems. We are a lot firmer with him when on our walks but he is still very nervous especially when meeting other dogs.

Now it seems we have to lodge a Customer Service Complaint with the PO, submit all available paperwork then wait 30 days for them to decide if we are entitled to compensation. By that time the 30 day money back guarantee will be well out of date but we're hoping the PO will come up with the refund.

I'm sure you will find the Gentle Leader and consistent handling a help. I have seen Gentle Leaders help in a lot of cases, but it requires a committed attitude from the handler...............change often does not happen overnight.

So true TTT! This hound is precious to us as our 5 grandchildren love him and want to fuss and play with him. At 3 he has the chance of a good life ahead as long as he learns to relax and enjoy being one of the "pack" and not leader of the pack!

As we have noticed Jacques is much better out with both my husband and myself, we will walk him together from now on. This gives us both time out of the house and a chance to meet people. Over the fields it's great to have my own space but the situation isn't as bad when he's off the lead!

Thanks for your thoughts.

Persist with Royal Mail. It does take 3 months to make a claim but the do pay up eventually.

Hi Sadie,

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that this company is NOT The Canny Company, they are another company selling the product. I work for The Canny Company and our website address is www.cannyco.com - we respond to emails usually the same day unless they are received over the weekend and we pride ourselves on offering excellent customer service.

If you would like our help getting this issue resolved we know the company concerned and can try to assist you - please get in touch with me by email - donna@cannyco.com and I will be more than happy to do what I can.

Kind regards,

Donna

Donna thank you. At the time, we were told we had to wait until the Collar had been received before the "company" refunded anything. Then out of the blue, they refunded the amount of the Collar into my PayPal account. No word or anything. I emailed to thank them, and check they had received the returned item, but they didn't reply. At least we got our money back though. A cautionary tale....???

Thanks for letting us know the details.
