each vet is different same as each human surgeon is different. :thumbsup: some like to have lots of space to move around,some prefer smaller openings but its down to the individual.i dont think it means someones imcompetant just cos they make a larger opening than another vet.the stitches look a little inflamed but nothing id worry too much about.if she on antibiotics then she should heal up ok.sometimes they ARE allergic to the sutures.tbh this is what it looks like to me as the actual would isnt suppurating (sp)or anything.just keep and eye on her and if she shows any signs of going downhill then take her back but id be surprised if you had to.

I should have known sticking my nose in here for 2 minutes would result in me finding a post I couldn't help replying to!

1) Hard to say from a photo but it looks like a suture reaction, and if it is I guarantee within a couple of days it'll be a million times better.

2) Extremely unlikely that a surgeon's incompetence could cause a suture reaction - that's like saying your doctor gave you hayfever!

3) Wounds heal from side to side, not end to end, so the length of incision is irrelevant to healing.

4) It is my personal opinion that small incisions for bitch spays are not good practice because they make it much more difficult to visualise the ovaries and cervix adequately. This makes it fiddly to place ligatures, with the risks of bleeding or including other tissues in the ligature much increased. A big surgeon makes a big hole!

5) If the dog is fine in herself then don't panic because were there something more seriously wrong she would be showing signs of depression and malaise.

Glad to see you back!

:b I can see your point, but cutting such a huge hole across abdominal muscles would IMO cause lot discomfort. This insision looks to me to be good 6" long (w00t)
