Hello,

I'm the owner of two Pomeranians and would like take this opportunity to warn other dog owners after a horrid incident we had over the festive season.

One of our Poms was spooked by a noise and hid under my husband's armchair whilst he had the recliner up for his feet. He didn't realise she was there and pressed the button for it to go down. Normally, she runs a mile at the sound of the recliner going up or down but on this occasion, she stayed put. We were only alerted when we heard her terrible screams from under the chair.

To cut a long story short, her long fur had become very tightly pulled into the long screwing mechanism beneath the chair. After battling in vain to free her, we rang 999 for the fire brigade and they managed the job for us. It took some time, even for them. Our poor girl was left with damaged skin and deep trauma, and is now on antibiotics and painkillers.

Apparently, this has happened to others - we have found reports online of similar occurrences, so do please take care if you have long-haired animals and recliners! Please do warn others too.

Oh wow, your poor girl! Thank you so much for joining the forum to give us this warning. I really hope she recovers quickly, both physically and mentally.

Thank you! We are all getting there. She is very clingy at the moment but we are all giving her lots of TLC. x

There have been quite a few puppies killed by reclining chairs too....glad your dog is ok ...

Aw, That is terrible to hear. Perhaps it's time for manufacturers to put safe guards in place.

Thank you for the alert. I hope your girl is ok.
