Hi All!

I am after some advice, I have a 3 year old staff x springer spaniel and ever since I have had him he has constant ear infections. They make him quite down and everytime I take him to the vets they give him some injection and some ear drops which I complete and then a few weeks after it comes back!

I am clueless on what to do next and it's upsetting me quite a bit as i feel helpless and that nothing seems to work!

Someone please help? Thank you!

Have you used anything to sooth and prevent his ears from getting bad in the first place?

I know lots of people who swear by Thornit powder (available everywhere from Ebay to Amazon and many pet shops too) for smelly and mucky ears, and an equal number of people who rely on 'the purple stuff'.

This is a gentian violet and boric acid solution in isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit) which you make up yourself, put in a squirt bottle and use to keep the ears from breaking down in the first place. I'm sure it does have a proper name but every time I see it referred to it's simply called purple stuff. The boric acid calms hte ears and the gentian violet prevents nasties from growing.

There are mentions of it all over the internet- here's one with the quantities listed so you can make your own. The ingredients are available from pharmacies and if they don't have them in stock they can get them in

Thank you! Yes I've used thornit, used salt water and cotton wall, used 3 different types of ear drops that the vets have given me, nothing is seeming to work at the moment! I'll check out the link! Thanks :)
