Anyone seen these yet? -- Portable dog-wash; vacuums dirty water out

would U try this out on Ur dog?

locally, Bed, bath, & beyond has these on clearance - looks like they work pretty well, but i'd want to use my own no-rinse shampoo - altho Bissell does have a "free n' clear" no-rinse dog shampoo.
However, they do not list the *ingredients* - & i'd want that info B4 i'd buy it.
It's not even on Bissell's own web-page for the free-N-clear shampoo refills! :eek:

what do U think?

YOW! --- I'm glad i phoned Bissell Cust Svc - there's a small-print HTML hotlink under the "add to cart" button, i never would have found that, for the "ingredients & SDS" [safety data sheet].

Here are the ingredients -

I would never, ever use that on ANYone - human, canine, anything living.
SLS are known skin / scalp irritants; they strip oils.
Propylene glycol is the active ingredient in automotive antifreeze, that kills if ingested - the metabolites destroy kidney tissue, & if untreated, ingestion can be fatal.
Diazolidinyl urea is a formaldehyde contributor.
Parabens are not safe, either.
And guess what? - the SDS [Federally-mandated "safety data sheet" for emergency info in case of ingestion, skin reaction, etc] brings up an Error 404: NOT FOUND. Uncool. :(

I voted maybe. I'm guessing a few dogs wouldn't like the noise Certainly wouldn't use the Bissel shampoo, wonder if you could use any dog shampoo in it
 
Obviously some dogs are very patient. If I approached with that thing, though, I wouldn't need to worry about the shampoo inside it- more how to get a corgi out of a tree! o_O

re the noise, in the video, it's really not that loud; spozedly it's designed to be relatively quiet, plus there's a sound reducing mat included, which is to be laid down, & the machine is set on the mat for use - which i do not believe the man demonstrating it, deployed.
It's certainly quieter than the Shark vacuum that my downtown-clients bought in January! - that's a small vac, but unGodly noisy.

Neither of his dogs seemed in the least bothered - both stood easy, once he'd started, & were barely restrained at all.
I thot that was quite good. :)

I'm sure U can use any shampoo U like, @FrankieDoodle - but it will need to be pre-diluted, at least 1 to 1 [water & shampoo], & I'd try to find a no-rinse needed formula, or else i'd use the machine twice: once to wash, once to rinse well.

I'm intrigued, i'd like to try it...

Presumably it could even be used with water and no detergent? Looks like a bit of a palaver though.

I don't like bathing a dog with the hosepipe :( - on a hot day, the unheated water streaming from a hose is bl**dy cold!
Dogs aren't 1,000# animals like horses, they chill much faster - I can wash a horse in a wash-stall, & if I brush them well ahead, they're not under the cold water for long; they never reach the shivering stage.

My dogs have all been bathed in the tub, all but Beauregard - at 35#, he'd fit in a utility sink, so that's where he was often bathed, as it's easier for me to reach the dog; the tub is elevated.

I just like the fact that I can bathe the dog away from the bathroom, which is so often a "bad place" to the dog, & I can do it almost anywhere - with warm water; indoors, outdoors, at a campsite with power receptacles, using a generator as power, __________ .

Imagine how useful this would be during a natural disaster, such as a hurricane or flood, when animals arrive covered in contaminated water, full of sewage, lawn chemicals, spilled pesticides, petroleum of all kinds... they need IMMEDIATE bathing to avoid both skin lesions & poisoning. This machine can bathe an 80# dog using 1.5 gallons of clean, warm water.
That's very economical.

many of my fellow-trainers who went to N'Awlins as volunteers to save abandoned pets, developed skin lesions that lasted for weeks or even months, after even brief skin-contact with the filthy, highly-polluted water.
Some dogs lost the pads of their paws, when severe inflammation made them peel; cats were sometimes poisoned outright & died, other cats were treated, but had chronic liver or kidney issues for the rest of their lives.

A bath really can save a life - or prevent a lot of suffering.

I just got an update from the Cust-Svc Dept at Bissell - they sent a PDF copy of the unavailable / never posted, Federally mandated, SDS - 'Material Safety Data Sheet', used for all exposures, ingestion, inhalation, skin contact, spills, in case of fire, for transport /border crossings, etc.

I've had clients' dogs that we've trained to not just tolerate, but to ENJOY, being vacuumed... to remove their lose hair. :D . They think of it as massage! Ahhhh...
It helps in the DS/CC process of training, if the vacuum has a long hose - we put the noisy machine at a distance, & reduce the volume of noise, near the dog. ;) . If the vacuum has an adjustable motor, we start out on "low suction" which is also low-noise, & gradually increase the suction [& the volume of sound, from the motor].

Most were smooth-coats, such as Labs, JRTs, & Dals, who shed daily - & of course, GSDs, the exception to the "seasonal shedding" tag that's on every double-coated breed but GSDs, :lol:
It saves a lot of work when U can pull the loose hair into a vacuum's dust-cup, bag, or drum; it's not under the furniture, in & on one's clothing, woven into the upholstery, or pounded into the wall-to-wall by foot traffic. :thumbs-up: Empty the dust-catcher, & all that hair is gone.

1 Sibe, daily vacuuming, & the hair from ONE pass, in ONE day -


U can even compost shed hair, rather than "trash" it - HAIR is high-protein & high-nitrogen, but it's very slow to break down, so unlike chemical fertilizers, it's released s-lo-w-l-y, so that plants can take it up, & it won't run off with the next rain to over-fertilize nearby water sources: streams, ponds, lakes, rivers, marshes, groundwater, bays...

this is DS/CC -
desensitize / COUNTER- or Classically-condition any pup or dog, to the vacuum or hair-dryer.
Counter = alter the dog's emotional response after previous bad experiences with X.
Classical = Pavlov:
pair a novel event or stimulus, with happy things, to associate that context, event, or stimulus, with good things, so that when the dog later meets it in real life, they're relaxed & calm.

Counter-conditioning can be done, even after years on end of reactivity or fear. :) . Dogs are incredibly resilient & very plastic in their behaviors.
