Well i'm leaving now, i feel like i'm going to have a heart attack
If it weren't for the pain i would no way go.

I can see me doing a runner, i feel sick  :(

Have just read the thread and OMG

I am so pleased you have found a dentist I just hope you manage to go through with the treatment

It is so important Nina so do it for your dogs if not for yourself :luck:

You poor thing - I've been there and done that too :( Even got the T shirt to prove it

I was in soooooooo much agony (and it was a Sunday night before a bank holiday Monday) that I very nearly overdosed on Night Nurse.

Luckily my flat mate came home and got the bottle away from me before I guzzled the lot (w00t)

You can have dental work done under general anaesthetic but your first visit would only be for an assessment and antibiotics to treat the abcess

Good luck :luck: :luck: , be brave and get it sorted out  :huggles:

ouchhh i agree..worst thing in the world. last year i actually pulled a broken one out with pliers in work cos i was in agony. got infront of a mirror with long nosed pliers and yanked the fukr out. you shouldve seen the guys faces

hope your ok soon

ouch, i know how you feel nina, i hate the dentist with a passion, had to be knocked out last i went :(

Thanks everyone, i'm back, ive been AND i didnt run away

I think cos i was in sio much pain by the time i got there i was nearly passing out & didnt care what they did to me as long as they stopped the pain :(

It turns out i have a tooth at teh bottom at the back which has broken away & crumbled right down in to the gum. An infection has got in & according to the x-rays they took it is in the bottom of the root around the nerve which is whats causing the pain.

So they injected it to numb which i can tell you was soooo painful i think they heard me screaming 20 miles away, she then cleaned right down in the hole & packed it with some kind of antibiotic wadding.

I have 2 different lots of antibiotics Metronidazole & Erythromycin & she says i have 2 options either a root canal filling or have it taken out.

I asked her opinion & she said in all honesty she would have it taken out as the chances of me going back 3 or 4 times for painful root canal work is next to nil (w00t)

So she is referring me to a place that will do it under sedation cos she could see how freaked out i was.

So hopefully i can sleep tonight without pain -_-

Thank you everyone for all your support & advice :huggles:

Well done you, I think you were really brave. Have a pat on the back from another dentist hater. :huggles:

hope you are comfy now..just read through this...everyones nightmare dentists...dont watch the little shop of horrors though...steve martin is not the dentist you would want!!!!

:huggles:

 Well done for facing your fear and going to get sorted.

I had the option of having a root canal or my tooth taken out so on Tuesday i had the tooth out, its not the nicest thing but apparentley its better to have the tooth out than have a canal filling, but what a relief it was when they took it out, i was in so much pain and nothing would get rid of it!

I'm sure you will be fine, Good luck.

Im glad you went and got it sorted...........and now you will feel

better about going in the future knowing you can be sedated

Glad you got it sorted..........................I think you are very brave as i will also do anything to avoid going to the dentist :sweating:

Well done Nina! You've done really well today. I'm hoping it feels better already. No whisky mind with those anti-biotics otherwise you'll be puking!

In a perfect world the best option is to keep hold of your own tooth for as long as possible (i.e. root canal treatment) However, the treatment can sometimes be unsuccesful and may need re-doing or an apicectomy (minor surgery) can be carried out in some circumstances. Obviously the dentist is the best person to give you an idea of the success rate for a given individual / tooth.

The other thing is that a filling may not be strong enough afterwards and a crown may be needed at a later date. So it can be a couple of visits to the dentist and a fair bit of time in the chair.

I think in your circumstances it's probably better to go ahead with having the tooth removed and I'd hope a simpler, shorter time in the dental chair with sedation will boost your confidence a little. :luck:

Nina you're such a star - well done - you're so brave :huggles:

Poor you Nina :( - toothache is such a dreadful pain. Well done for conquering your fear and going to the dentist. I hope you are beginning to feel a little better now. :luck: :luck:
