Affix.... Prefix..... What And Why

your right in what your saying though , an affix is used most by people who have bred a litter as it is there own stamp so to speak , i love writing out my schedules and starting with saraquele , this is now my "own line " of whippets and its so much better to have as said a "family" name :thumbsup:
 
My reason was the same as June's I wanted to give my whips a Family name, so all mine would be Calenna especially for racing, and because they all have their own indvidual affix name because I bought them in I could not change that.

The puppies however are true Calenna because I bred them so they will always officially be that on the KC Reg but their owners could called them Calenna so and so at or of 'their affix',although I don't intend to become a breeder in the true sense of the word, I do think it will be nice for the name to live on through the puppies :)

With my website its just to show folk about us and the dogs like sharon said if you dont have an official affix you need to check your not using someone elses name'

You pay each year to keep your sffix I think its £21 or their abouts, I forget its an age thing :blink: :b .

I had never given affixes much thought, it's only Sox has a prefix to her KC registered name - Wixenford Winter's Wish :)

But this has made me wonder ............ I live in a place called Dippertown :lol: so maybe I should create a family name (I like that idea) for my gang?

So how does Dippy Whippets sound? :lol: :lol: :lol: - I could use Dippertown as the affix so Sox would become Wixenford Winter's Wish at Dippertown (w00t) and Ella would be Dippertown Stripes of Starlight :thumbsup: :D
 
Ella would be Stripes of Starlight of Dippertown - as the affix can only be used before the name if you have bred the animal.

My Affix is Meddling (surprise surprise!!) It's great to have a way to identify yourself in so many ways...email address, user names and it should be on my dogs, Daisy is Clydum Royal Revival for Meddling and her litter were all named after plants beginning with M - so she had Meddling Mountain Ash and Meddling Murtle. Meddling Mistletoe and Meddling Mulberry.

I must put it onto Bluebell as it will be the only part of her name that I could pronounce!!

i like the idea to, but as we have 2 from the same family they both have a family name, so i cant really justify paying the pennies just yet, maybe we should just get another whippet so we can get a family name (w00t) :- "

I won't be breeding so all mine will just have the suffix then :thumbsup:

i have a question, can you get a list of affix's that are in use, so that you can make sure your not going to have one the same?
 
There must be millions of them in ciculation now - it is so much easier to get one now - much easier than it used to be.

When applying for our affix we sent off about 25 suggestions before we finally got one accepted.

I would say that there isn't really any point in registering an affix unless your dogs are in the ring/racing etc :thumbsup:

Never said you did want one - just saying that it doesn't really serve a purpose unless your dogs are in one of these fields :)
 
Well there are people who dont race or show who have a

affix, i think its just a personal choice.

And all being well K will be racing this season :) And there

is no reason she cant be shown either :thumbsup:
 
I have owned an affix for 24 years and have never yet put it on a dog's name.

Ooooh Ann, where will you go racing? Do you know which is your nearest club? Give it a go - the dogs love it :cheers:
 
I went to a few meeting of the EAWCC and took the girls along.

Sada wasnt impressed but K loved and had a couple of trials and

took to it like a duck to water. So hopefully she will be running

there this season coming :thumbsup:

Why not Jenny? Did you inherit your Dad's affix, or did you have your own?

Yes I inherited my dads. The affix itself has been registered since ? 1940. I took it over in 1984 to protect it. For family and business reasons I have only ever been able to keep one dog at a time since 1980 and none of them could be shown. Ricky was a monorchid and lived to be 12, Sandy was an older whippet who lived out his last few years with us and Patch became too big and had one ear that was permanently pointing North. I would never re-home a dog because I could not show it so that is where the years went. I sat by a lot of ringsides during that time watching judging, so it kept me up-to-speed with the breed, and even though I could not show them, I know in my heart I gave those dogs the best of homes. Patch would not look out of place in the ring now, he might even have been alright then, but for me he was too big.

I am also interested in poetry and words and think that Dylan's name, Denimonde Willie Findlove, is perfect as it is, especially as he was born on Valentine's Day, I really ought to put my affix on, but I just hate cluttered up names.
