Well, I'm located in the US and haven't actually found a breeder in my area, yet but I know this breed is what I'm gonna hold out for. I may have to travel cross country to get one, but if that's what it takes.
Congratulaitons on becoming a whippet owner. When I went to choose my pup, I came away with two!
Mine sleep in plastic beds (seperate) with a pillow in the bottom and fleece blankets (easy to wash and dry). At night they are covered with another fleece. I too get through a number of blankets as Zippy brings his to the door when I come home and then won't let go of it until he has chewed a hole. At the weekend my washing line if full of blankets with more holes than fabric!
My two started on fabric collars, but trained to walk with Halti's (size 1). They now walk nicely to heel on choke chains and fabric leads (the choke chain comes in handy if there are any cats/squirrels/birds whilst on the lead). I have never tried an extending lead as I agree with others, whippets dash about/change direction and I imagine an accident could easily occur. I prefer to walk them on the lead to a safe open space and then let them go........
My two get 3 walks a day. One quickie (on lead) in the morning to do the necessary. At lunctime they have a good run (at least an hour) and then another road walk after evening meal (keeps the claws short).
You'll never be sorry you chose a whippet, but you might wish you had a bigger bed!
