Oh dear. The usual recipe for getting chewing gum off something is to put it in the freezer so that it goes brittle - not really an option for a whippet :- " Whenever I've had one with paint or something stuck on, I've had to resort to cutting the fur off with it, even that would be difficult on a whippets ribcage.

A general search of the web only brings up using icecubes (ouch!) or very nasty sounding solvents.

Yuck, horrid stuff :(

Had the same problem with one of the Blues Brothers, (Max) I trimmed the chewing gum off with nail clippers, the hair took 2 weeks to grow back. Looks tidy now.

Good luck, Mike.

Hi Saraquele, if you use ice cubes to harden the chewing gum it will just pull off. just hold the chewing gummed hair between two ice cubes for a little while until it is hard then qhickly but gently pull it away from the hair.

Hope this helps.

Gavin

thanks ,, few more attempts then out comes the clippers :b

Try some olive oil on it. It's great at taking out really sticky sap, so might very well work on the chewing gum.

I use oil baby veg or any thing like that you need to rub some in and slide the gum off each hair it takes some time ;)

Can you get Eucalyptus oil there? A little dabbed on will get rid of it.

..or tee tree oil, or probably any other essential oils like rosemary, lavander or some citrus. I have a household cleaner based on orange oil and it takes out of dogs hair lot of things including chewing gum, paint and biro ink (especially useful here, as the girls like to munch on biros)

i will remember that one as mine love the idea of chewing pens too

Hi, Oil is the answer to get the gum out. Even butter rubbed into the hair and then

a shampoo will get rid of it. Works on childrens hair too.

Deb :))

Did you get it out without resorting to the clippers?

t6hank you everyone for your advice ,,,, it was well and truley stuck  as she is only 6 months old she still has the baby hair and the gum was stuck to her skin OUCH :sweating: can safely say that gum is now gone :b this was done by using baby oil very gently over last couple of days ,,, little by little i got it off her but the poor babe has a 1" round bald patc  i am putting pure aloe vera oil on it ( pinched my mums aloe plant (w00t) ) as it looked a little irratated . so hopefully thats it ,,, untill next time :- " thanks again for all your help :D
