My darling labradoodle boy used to be obsessed with fetching his ball and was retrieving balls from 9 weeks old but recently, although he still goes bonkers about chasing a ball, he no longer reliably brings it back to me, but gets distracted by smells and drops the ball, going off for a sniffing session. Eventually, if I tell him to'find it' enough times, he will go get it, but rarely brings it right the way back, usually leaving it about 5 feet away as if to say "that'll do, you can see it, now get it yerself!"

How can I get him back to retrieving and bringing all the way back?

He needs to be neutered, but I can't afford it till after Xmas so I suspect the horny little chap (who is most enamoured of my cushions at present) is now noticing all the lady scents, which take precedence over the ball.

Hi, If you are low income/unemployed have you tried asking the PDSA for assistance with Neutering costs?

Hi Nic

Before I answer your question, I just need to establish if your dog is left with his toys all the time.

What I mean is. When he is just relaxing in the house or when he is roaming free, does he always have free access to his toys?

Once we establish that we can be more accurate in the answer.

Thank you
