2009 Oz & Nz Show Results

I cant take all the credit really except that i chose the dam as my foundation bitch and campaigned her here in the west and i chose the sire to put over her - producing a lovely litter. Denise did all the hard work of titling her! :D Anyway Delilah's breeding is mostly Denise's Swifthund...

Retained Testicles And The Genetics Involved.

Thanks Lanny for the great information, i will download the article and info you have given a link to. Thanks for your advice. They are 4 months old now so they should well and truely have 2 by now. 2 out of 4 boys have 1 testicle retained. Its not normally an issue in these lines, however the...

Retained Testicles And The Genetics Involved.

If you have 4 male pups in a litter, 2 of those have retained testicles, you obviously run on one of the males with both testicles - if you use him over your girls later down the track, is he likely to pass on retained testicles to his pups even if he has both but his litter mates had either 1...

Dark Blood 7 Days Post Mating

Thanks everyone for your replies. Its good to know others have seen this type of bleeding, although i dont think it is normal (its definately not post season blood, its much darker than any bleeding she had during her season and that tapered off anyway) i can hold out a hope that she has some...

Dark Blood 7 Days Post Mating

Oh i hope so, thanks for your comments. I dont breed often so havent taken much notice of what the bloody discharge is like at the end of the season, i just know it gets lighter in colour usually and then dissapears. She didnt fall on her last season when mated (though she is a proven dam) so...

Dark Blood 7 Days Post Mating

Just hoping for some advice from other breeders. My bitch was mated 3 times, last mating was exactly 1 week ago. She had pale "peach" coloured discharge around the time of the last mating. Now this morning ive noticed she has a very dark blood discharge from her vulva. Not a lot, but enough to...

Would You Put Your Dog Through Surgery

Because the original post was a contentious issue to start with! Isnt this what forums are about? Yes we get off topic, yes people get picky, but its a discussion none the less, those who want to respond and put their opinion forward will, those who dont want to respond to the topic - dont have...

Would You Put Your Dog Through Surgery

Although the journal is informative, it is obviously biased toward one arguement and rather than post a link to the negatives associated with it, a reader should make an informed decision by reading information that also disputes those adverse affects associated with early desexing. There are...

Would You Put Your Dog Through Surgery

Its a good job you are a close friend Memyselfni - I might have really taken offense to that! :p  Although i dont currently desex my babies before they go to their homes, it is something ive considered. After selling a puppy to someone i thought i knew well, i had a lot of contact with...

Would You Put Your Dog Through Surgery

I think its more to do with breeders ensuring the new owners of their puppies and kittens - dont become backyard breeders and breed their pet to some random unregistered dog, perpetuating the issue of unwanted dogs and puppy farming. Its not so much about protecting lines. It may be more of a...

Would You Put Your Dog Through Surgery

That "term" is also used here rather than "Neutering", so is "sterilisation"! :p Obviously things are different over here in Australia than the UK or USA! It is widely accepted to perform paediatric "desexing" here, some disagree with it, many breeders do do it. There is NO scientific...

Would You Put Your Dog Through Surgery

Why is this one of the "worst" and strangest things to do to a dog? Many puppies are desexed before they leave the breeder, meaning they are desexed at 3 months of age. Not strange at all, widely accepted and im sure this is not one of the worst surgical interventions a dog must endure.

Size/birth Weight Of New Born Pups, How Did They End Up As Adults

Those weights are normal average whippet puppy weights. All my pups in the litters ive had have been between 300-400 grams. You will probably find that most peoples pups are around the same :)

Size/birth Weight Of New Born Pups, How Did They End Up As Adults

I think Tesa is more curious about whether big chunky babies end up as big adults over the standard size. Size is also something i am concerned about as my babies grow as i dont want huge whippets over the standard, so it would be interesting if there was some sort of correlation between birth...
