Well I know now! Can I just add the friend and collie owner in question is a gynecologist- who went completely to pieces and kept saying, 'this can't be happening!' No help at all.
Ok well all you do is ask the owner to keep the dog in. I enquired because these things aren't always cut and dried. My rescue lurcher some years ago ravished a friend's collie that had just come into season. We were out walking. But my dog had been castrated though in mid-life! It was quite a...
Oh not a cocker, neither working nor show! We've had both and they can be more driven than springers. I'm not sure that just an hour a day gentle exercise will be enough for any working type dog- that would include the herders as well. They are bred over many many generations to be active and...
Sorry but I'd pay for a phone consult at least and photograph her stomach and send that for an immediate opinion. Could be something or nothing- or very serious. Only the vet can say. If money is a difficulty have you tried contacting PDSA or Blue Cross?
Have you considered a cockerpoo or small labradoodle? I have friends who own both. The first is a sort of champagne colour, the second a deeper gold. Both lovely dogs for a family and both seem less prone to health problem. The Lab x poodle is yellow lab mother and miniature poodle father (I...
This is so sad! I think you know in your heart he's nor stubborn but struggling too- and since you care so much, so are you. The only experience I've had is a dog that was having chemo- I think he was scared of food making him sick. I sat on the floor with him so often and tried not to weep. You...
Just a point- don't even consider 'smacking' someone's dog! Hitting another person's dog could put you on the wrong side of the law and is extremely unsafe for you, specially if you are carrying a child. The last thing you need to be doing is escalating the aggression. Why not try to talk to the...
Good advice here. Don't be anxious. It sounds as if you've got a lovely normal puppy so don't let anxiety stop you enjoying her. (To be honest the only thing I'd do differently is let the new lawn go hang and start toilet training outside. It's natural for a dog and can lead to confusion and...
For a puppy I'd talk all the symptoms over with a vet if only by phone. Adult dogs can be off food for a few days no real problem - but youngsters can go down hill quickly.
Is the itchiness diagnosed/resolved now? Having had an itchy puppy it can make them very depressed as it would a human with eczema. My last itchy puppy would moan even when asleep! Agree about making sure there's no dehydration of course.
So sorry- been through this and there's not much to say that helps. Yes- we always got a dog again but never a replacement. A bit like saying 'why don't you adopt a new brother'? Each dog is a unique creature and so is the relationship. The pain at loss is what you take on so that the dog you've...
Ouch! As a homechecker for the past 20 years for about ten different rescues this is really difficult stuff to read. All I can do is speak for the people who visit potential homes- at their own expense and in their own time. (Over the years I'd had a couple of times when I've been threatened...
I think the truth of this has already been expressed- picnics are banned!.. Your dog was simply doing its social duty- and no harm done. WTG Sparky. (I know it can shake you at the time though). I had a guy shout Go away! at my lurcher once and, for emphasis, point at him with a jumbo sausage...
