    Lurcher Shows And Castration

A bit of a newbie question - can castrated/spayed lurchers be shown in lurcher shows? And if not, why not? I imagine they are judged largely on their capacity to work and presumably a neutered dog is just as capable of working as an entire one. This is really just curiosity as if I do show...

    Hyper Puppy And Csj?

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt, patched the holes in the t-shirt  Unfortunately, once Jasper is in munch mode, yelping in pain seems to get him more excited. A squirt of a water spray seems to be the most effective solution, but this isn't permitted at his training group...

    Hyper Puppy And Csj?

Thank you! I think you're right, an hour of behaving himself in that environment is just too much. He's normally brilliant at the start, and then starts slumping into the down position at any excuse which is probably a sign that he's getting a bit fed up with it. If I push him to perform when...

    Hyper Puppy And Csj?

You could be right there... it's a novice class, but not a puppy class as such. To be honest he's brilliant at the commands, one of the better ones in the class - until he loses it. Thinking about it, early on in the session he went into one of those downs that only a lurcher can do, as if he's...

    Hyper Puppy And Csj?

When Jasper gets tired or excited, he is a persistent jumper and biter - my arms are covered with scratches and bruises, and we haven't even got to t-shirt season.... He seems to be getting better, but has just started teething (he's just over 4 months) and has regressed a little...

New Forest Lurcher & Terrier Spring Show

Here's me making a fool of myself, and Jasper hiding under the car in embarrassment ;) By columbusrat at 2010-04-18 By columbusrat at 2010-04-18

New Forest Lurcher & Terrier Spring Show

Maria, I looked for someone wielding a camera but didn't spot any likely contenders so apologies for not meeting you. However, if anyone who spotted the complete numpty in the dog puppy class who didn't have a clue what she was as she'd only arrived 10 minutes earlier and managed to get herself...

New Forest Lurcher & Terrier Spring Show

Thank you! It might be interesting to see how Jasper gets on with being handled, he's a bit mouthy, I wouldn't want to upset the judge... Definitely wouldn't let him off the lead, he's desperate to make friends wiith everyone and every dog we meet  See you there!

New Forest Lurcher & Terrier Spring Show

This'll be my first dog show and I don't know what to expect! How big is it? What's the best time to arrive? Will there be food available there (hot dogs - no pun intended - etc.)?... and will there be classes suitable for 4-month-old pups or is that too young?

The Only Litter Of Puppies Sired By William Mckeown's Top Show Dog

Just look at the length of those legs  Jasper's 19.5" tts now, and getting taller by the day. I'm hoping his ears aren't going to stay like that!

Whereas Jasper loves people and hates the car! It's three minutes drive to where I can let him have a good romp and he cries all the way there and back apart from when we're stopped at traffic lights. I'm hoping he'll realise soon that cars mean FUN!

The Only Litter Of Puppies Sired By William Mckeown's Top Show Dog

It must be a lurcher thing... Jasper went to a 'puppy party' at Pets at Home this evening. All the puppies sat attentively as a staff member talked about health care and early training, but the eyes of Jasper and a deerhound x lurcher bitch of the same age met  and they spent the whole...

Max is so like Jasper! Though he's got a more delicate head - I often think I can see a touch of the Irish Terrier in Jasper. Not sure about the obedient bit - Jasper has taken to checking what sort of treat I have before he decides whether to obey or not  And if he reckons he's too...

    Your Dog's Favourite Treats?

Esty, could you let me have your recipe for liver cake please? I was also veggie for many years but detested liver before then too. But there's always clothspegs for the nose ;)

    Your Dog's Favourite Treats?

I very bravely let Jasper off the lead today in Upton Country Park, and he was brilliant  Sniffed around happily, came when called, and never let us get more than 10-15' away. He was momentarily deaf when he spotted some ducks, but came at the second or third call (I think he was weighing...

    Stairs

Thanks Goran :) Jasper's going to be a big 'un too so I'll get OH to do the carrying. There's a new edition of The House Lurcher due out in March so I'm hanging on until then.

    Stairs

Jasper has started sleeping in my bedroom, which is the only time he's allowed upstairs. We've been carrying him up and down as at 10 weeks he's too young to 'do' stairs but he's a big lad and I'm a small lass wiith a dodgy back, and he's getting bigger by the day... Should I regard the 'no...
