Should puppies be given water at night

I'm not sure if it's right or wrong to give water to a puppy before bedtime. I just took my puppy out at 10pm for her last toilet break and as soon as she comes in from going outside she goes straight for the water. She wanted to drink it all but I picked it up after she had had 2 gulps. I don't...

    Feeling anxious

I've been going through the same thing the last few days. But unlike you it's for a short time. She goes home tomorrow. I'm a dog sitter :) and just as I'm feeling I'm getting into a routine she's going home. Missing her already. It's been a very short time. Persevere with it. Toilet training...

puppy pooing in crate at night

Spoke too soon on that one. Heard her moving about in her pen and as I got into the hall I sensed it and smelled it. She has done a poo. 10.45pm. This puppy training is hard work :)

puppy pooing in crate at night

Thanks. Her pen is in her owners room at home but my bedroom is only next door to the living room where she is sleeping. I live in a downstairs flat. She is getting loads better. I see a vast improvement from when she first arrived, I definitely think she is settling in. She even weed out the...

puppy pooing in crate at night

I understand it may be awkward to give advice as I am actually a dog sitter and the puppy is only with me until Wednesday but the constant cleaning up every morning is hard work. Have a little 3 month old boxer puppy staying, she's gorgeous and been no trouble at all. Apart from her toilet...

    Sleeping with new puppy

I'm a dog sitter and at first found puppies being crated to be cruel but I soon changed my opinion after I had one stay for the night. Theres no way I could have let them have free reign in my bedroom. I would never have slept. One puppy that stayed had a blanket to put over the crate which...

My Dog sleeps on my bed, does yours?

I'm a dog sitter and varies depending on what dog is staying. I have 2 dogs a pug and a lab who sleep on my bed as they used to bark and scratch at night. Leaving the door open to my bedroom gives me a quiet life. It is squashed. I have 2 German shepherds staying at the moment who are very...

    Crating at 11 weeks

is this an office job? Very surprised that they allow dogs on the premises. The owner should have thought about what she was going to do with the dog while she was at work before she got it. I'm a dog sitter/walker and I look after some lovely dogs and all the owners care deeply about them...

    German shepherd eating difficulties

Thanks I am attempting to stick to the schedule. It is difficult because one of them won't eat their breakfast when I give it to them. He's quite slow. One had their breakfast early hours of this morning and put the other ones out for him between his legs on the floor by the bed which the owner...

    German shepherd eating difficulties

I am dog sitting 2 German shepherds atm whose owner said can't eat food before or after a walk because of problems to do with digestion. Is it a breed thing an age thing or combination of both? she told me I had to feed them at least an hour beforw their walk or an hour after it. They are 10 and...

Dog sitting dogs that won't sleep

How do you deal with separation anxiety in dogs? I can't leave them at night without them scratching on my door and barking. I don't want them in my room. I have tried it in the past and they think it's time to play and run around. I just want some quiet time to my self. Other than exercising...

    Crate

I put her by the crate and then she goes in with no fuss. She rarely goes in it when I'm around to cuddle her. I only put her in it at night or the odd hour I have to go out. Not long at all. She's always out with me for walks and cuddles up with me until I'm ready to go to bed. I understand why...

Puppy doesnt like me going out

Bless her .Yes I think the only way of her getting used to it is to do it little and often. Also I would be curious to my have you had any complaints from neighbours? If you haven't it could just be the case of her initial reaction to you leaving and then she calms down while you are out. Also...

    Crate

Yes thanks. It's a very small crate with just a bed in it. And I think after she's had lots of walks she will want to sleep then, even in the day time. Also I don't want her to feel like she's being punished if I put her in it during the day time put a blanket over it and go out. Tricky one .

    Crate

I just wondered what is the average time you would leave a puppy in its crate? The one I am currently looking after is 8 months old. She doesn't seem to mind it at all. She never cries even though I am a dog sitter and she has only been staying with me since Saturday. I leave her in it at night...

    Blanket over crate

Is it possible for a puppy to suffocate putting a blanket over the crate? I'm dog sitting and she suddenly went quiet when I put the blanket over the crate. Started worrying me.

    Feeding advice

As long as you are feeding her to the guidelines recommended, you seem to be doing everything from your end. Do you give her treats as well during the day? I'm a dog sitter and have looked after a cavalier spaniel for a year now (several days a week while owners in work, plus when she goes...

St Bernard Puppy not leaving the lounge

That is odd. Just a thought but where did his breeder keep him, when you went to collect him? Perhaps he has picked up a habit from her/him.

    snuggles

Yes love snuggling my dogs. I have a massive Labrador at the moment, he takes up nearly the whole sofa wanting to sleep next to me and put his head on me :) He's ever so cute, I don't mind at all. I feel honoured he wants to come and sleep next to me :)

4 month old Puppy sleeping issues

It's down to the individual as regards to whether you let them sleep on the bed or not. I'm a dog sitter and I love them to sleep on my bed, if they are small dogs and don't take up too much room :) I have a lab and a pug at the moment they are settled in the living room. It all depends on the...
