    Poorly Teya

Hope she soon improves. Such a worry aren't they?

There is a separate thread for this problem now.

    Poorly Teya

Dogs certainly do, in my experience, grieve. Did Teya see the body of her companion? This can sometimes help as the surviving dog knows what has happened to their friend. If their friend just goes out one day and does not come home it can be very puzzling. Add to this the emotional state of the...

Just a word to the wise. It is best to close the door so that the dog learns to "ask" for the door to be opened. They can become confused as the where the indoor and outdoor begins and ends. Summer pups often end up not being fully house trained because of this.

    New dog in the pack

Yes, you as crate and cover it. The reason for using it is to give you control of the cat. It is no good training around a cat that is going to keep moving or hissing. All the dog needs is to know that the cat is around and still learn to respond to you . As with all training set the dog up to...

    Introducing a cat

I did fine it, dogmatize, and answered it. Yes it can be used for two dogs. They would have to be trained separately and more care would have to be taken with them as they could egg each other on a little. Always harder to control two dogs :) As I said in that post, the more confident a cat...

    New dog in the pack

Dogmatize - yes you could use the same technique to introduce a new cat. A kitten would be easier because they do not run away and trigger the dog's chase instinct all the time. Yes you would have to train each dog as an individual. The prey drive would be different in each of them. As I say I...

Thunder on the way : best way to handle it?

Thanks, Dogmatize. The bolt hole is extremely helpful to most dogs. I knew one dog, though, that chose its owners lap. It was a Labrador! I asked about your experience, as an owner, with the Thunder Shirt as there has been some discussion, recently, that it shuts down a dog's emotions rather...

Pups and indeed, all dogs, need to run off and hide if their emotional state demands it. Tying them to anything takes away the flight element of the their fight/flight response. They feel trapped and how awful is that. We ask an awful lot of our dogs to expect them to live within the curtilage...

Thunder on the way : best way to handle it?

Dogmatize - what did you think of the Thundershirt? Did you introduce it with several other remedies or on its own so that you could see if it had an effect? There are differing opinions on them and I just wondered what you thought?

Also, Leashed for Life, this is a sensitive puppy. I don't think it needs tying to someone's waist!

So. all's well then? You probably know how to house train but just in case - Take him out after eating, after sleeping, after playing and any time he looks distracted. Wait around and be boring until he goes. Give him a high value treat and be very, very happy! Do not wait until he approaches...

Thunder on the way : best way to handle it?

Try not to react yourself. Lots of people get up and close the curtains when they wouldn't normally to that. Or, they call out to another family member "did you hear that thunder!". If you are reading or watching tv etc just keep your eyes fixed on your activity. Your dog will have checked your...

Recall not as good as it should be!

You can also introduce a frustration into training recall Sometimes just give her nothing when she comes back to you. This can cause her to be frustrated and so "try harder" next time to achieve the result she wants i.e. lovely treats etc. This is best done early in training, ideally when they...
