    What’s gone wrong?

Mine didn't let me know that she wanted to go out until much later than 9 weeks, don't worry. Can you confine him to the room where the door is, so it's always in sight for him? That's what I did to begin with. Obviously you'd have to walk in and out of the room yourself (in order to get on with...

    Help.... snapping, biting and nipping!

Yes! Glad to hear it. The flirt pole is great, especially before you're allowed to take him on walks. And glad to hear the time out is working. I did a similar thing to Biker John, once she started sleeping through, a gradually increased her sleep by 15 mins each night (sometimes by 5 mins each...

    Retained teeth

Hi all Has anyone had a puppy who had retained teeth, i.e. when an adult tooth grows in the same place as the baby tooth before the baby tooth has fallen out? My whippet pup has a definite case of lower canine adult teeth growing on the INSIDE of the baby tooth, whilst the baby tooth is still...

    Help.... snapping, biting and nipping!

I really really know exactly what you're going through! It's totally exhausting. You have to be on it the WHOLE time. Even in the moments when they're asleep, you're either too knackered to do anything or you have to use that time to do essential chores etc. I'm on my own so I really understand...

    My fur baby has arrived......

I have that exact dog bed and my whippet LOVES it more than any other surface.

    Help.... snapping, biting and nipping!

Couldn't agree more. Loss of freedom is the thing that really makes me depressed. But I keep having to remind myself it's only temporary and at the end I'll have a lovely companion that will enrich my life, instead of limiting it, as she is currently doing! It's hard to remember that in the bad...

    Help.... snapping, biting and nipping!

I don't think it's because you spend the most time with him, because in my house I'm the only one there so I spend ALL the time with mine and she went through the same biting phase. It didn't last long. The walking away worked best for me, but if you had been watching me you'd think I was an...

What’s best to put in a Kong?

Also - when my whippet was the same age as yours she had no patience for the frozen one (she did a few weeks later though!) So definitely start off without freezing the kong. They soon get the idea to throw it around to get stuff out.

What’s best to put in a Kong?

You can get 'Peamutt' butter from Pets at Home and it has no xylitol :) My whippet likes it a lot.

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

Hi John. Thanks for the suggestion. I've looked into lure coursing clubs but can't find any in my area. I'm not sure if that's the same thing, but I don't think there are any racing clubs either. Mind you that's just from an internet search and these things have proven hard to find sometimes, so...

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

Yes that's a good point about protecting other things. If I ever get to let her off the lead it's a good reason to get one. At this rate I think it'll only ever be in a dog park with not much wildlife or poo (other than dog poo) though.

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

Thank you for your responses. It's comforting to know other dogs are like mine! Thanks for the muzzle recommendations and training suggestions. I'll bear them in mind if I do end up getting one. Thanks

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

Thanks! A few questions. Mine is 19 weeks old (4.5 months) and you said your pup is 22 weeks and has grown out of it. Can mine really change that much in 3 weeks? It's nice to know that your adult dogs wear muzzles. How much yoghurt do you give them each per day? Thanks

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

Her favourite toy is unfortunately a flirt-pole which is a bit huge to carry on walks, especially when I'm juggling her lead and a bum bag to keep poo bags etc in. I could try with one of the smaller toys but I think what will happen is she will simply desensitize to it pretty quickly once she...

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

That's what I'm afraid of heh! I'm not sure whether I've just been lucky so far or what, but I know that the diarrhoea was caused by something she ate and even that was a pretty big deal, getting up 4 times per night etc, so I dread to think of surgery etc! Shizicles haha! On a related note, I...

Opinions/experiences on muzzling to prevent scavenging

Yes sorry I meant a fabric basket muzzle, not the ones that prevent them opening their mouths. I've heard fabric ones exist which allow room for panting etc but could be wrong, I haven't looked into it.
