    Fireworks

I played mine fireworks sounds too, when she was young, and she seems to be fine with loud noises so I think it does help. I have also read in several places that to console your dog is definitely not something you should do (cruel as it may seem). Consoling just serves to confirm to them that...

    Worming tablets

I use Drontal chewable tablets bought over the counter from Pets at Home and I plan to give it every 4 months, not 3. My vet said 4 months would be fine even though many places say 3 months, so ... * shrug *

Feed before or after walks ?

Yes when it gets dark I'm going to be interested to see whether eating an hour before her walk makes Piccolo's scavenging lessen!

Feed before or after walks ?

I take mine for a walk first, then after half an hour's rest she gets fed. I don't have time at the moment to feed her first and then wait an hour before taking her for a walk, so this is why I do it this way. But when it starts to get darker in the morning I will probably switch it around.

    Pup barking

The thing that worked like a charm for me was to leave the room the second the dog barks. You have to repeat it many many times like an absolute yo-yo, up and down. But after a while of this, mine realised that barking = I disappear, and that's not what she wanted at all. This is of course easy...

    Conflicting puppy raising philosophies

Shanti - I'm with you on this one because the issue here isn't just that your husband believes one thing and you believe another. Whatever it is he believes is the right method for raising the dog, he's not consistent with it anyway! Even if he had a leg to stand on, he doesn't seem to be doing...

For those with just one dog - how long can you leave them home alone?

Thanks everyone. My puppy is only 6 months at the moment. She's got the usual puppy separation anxiety, a teensy bit of howling etc, but she's showed signs of getting over this recently, when I employ the methods of 1) exercising her beforehand, 2) leaving the radio on, 3) giving her high-value...

For those with just one dog - how long can you leave them home alone?

Hi all For owners of single dogs - I was wondering, how long are you able to leave yours alone in the house for? When I say 'you' I mean you specifically i.e. what is your own experience with this (not asking for opinions on what the general rules should be :) ) Many thanks

    Problem with our puppy's food

I was having the same problem. Someone on here also advised I look at the All About Dog Food site (probably Judy!) which I did and I switched to the highest-quality one that was suitable for my dog's age and breed (Eden). You'd think high-end foods would be really expensive but it's actually not...

    Puppy pass times

I put some baby food, mashed banana, bit of soft cheese, etc on the licki mat and then freeze it. It lasts ages :)

    Puppy pass times

The Yaker's Himalayan chews are good, it keeps mine occupied for about 15 mins at a time and then I take it away from her for a while. Mine doesn't care about plastic bones either! Sometimes I put her outside the living room, hide treats around the room, and then let her in and say 'find it'...

    Sleeping with new puppy

Mine was in her crate downstairs, with the door shut, from day one. She only cried on the first night (and only for about 5-10 mins, three times) and then she slept straight through from day two onwards (although this is super lucky and I don't think this is the average experience by a long...

    Pad training

My pup came to me having been 'using' (although I now doubt successfully) pads in her breeder's house. In my house she had absolutely no idea what the pads were supposed to be used for and completely ignored them. I dispensed with them on the first day and just took her outside. She was not at...

    Please help :( Indiscriminate eating

Thanks. This is true, I'll take your advice especially about the fetch thing. I was probably expecting too much from her too soon! Unfortunately I've already been doing this. She is mostly on a long line when we're in open areas and it's fitted to the front of her harness. It's simply...

Bit of a silly question, but...

Thanks Judy. I didn't book at appointment but after seeing those shards I was sort of pre-empting a trip to the vets. I've been watching her closely and she's fine so far. But you read about how easily these bits of bone perforate bowels etc... I'm not sure I'd give raw bones to her again. It's...

Bit of a silly question, but...

I just had to take the bone from her. It crunched up easily and was splintering into some VERY sharp shards. And a Google search says do not feed rib bones. She's already eaten half of it. Should've Googled it beforehand......... ****! Vets here we come.

Bit of a silly question, but...

Okay so I tried the frozen ribs as you suggested. Was she supposed to actually eat it? It didn't take her long to crunch up and eat the whole bone. I thought bones were not supposed to be consumed but these raw rib bones seem easy to chew through even when frozen.

Bit of a silly question, but...

Has anyone tried beef tails? E.g. these? JR Beef Tails for Dogs 250g, a long lasting natural dog chew for all dogs

Bit of a silly question, but...

This is great, thanks, I will try it. I assume you mean raw, right? (Is it cooked bones that are dangerous?)
