Wife too indulgent towards naughty labradoodle puppy! Help please!!

A warm, soft, hairy, big, hugging puppy, sharing a sofa - this would be a dream! This would be incredible therapy in our stressful life! I would love this! Unfortunately, my own dog seems to be growing out of it, and our hugging moments on the sofa are less frequent than they used to be (and...

my dog not showing prove she can protect her self when the need comes

Different cultures, experiences etc. approach works, but up to a point. There are cultures where dogs are considered food. While respecting diversity of experiences, I doubt I will be engaging in discussing recipes, for example. Where that “point of tolerance” is - probably depends on the...

    Tick treatments

We use Frontline. It's OK to use on puppies (I believe from 8 weeks), but - it's not the most effective solution. Not the most effective, but on the other hand - not as potentially harmful as some others. When selecting tick prevention approach - we went with the milder one. This means that we...

Go out early, meet other dogs - a great start of the weekend!

As good as it gets on a "walk"

This is as good as it can get on a "walk" for Miles. Letting 3 monster dogs (well over 300 lbs / 140 kg combined ) run free in a nature park can only happen when there is no one else there. In this case - rainy late afternoon. But what's getting a little bit wet when you get to see them play...

    Looking for dog breeds

I would scratch the Ridgeback off your list. The one point it scores high on is “thinking for itself”.... the rest - hit or miss at best, and no self-respecting Ridgeback goes out in cold and rainy weather.

    Very early morning walk

Miles, looking very serious, on his morning walk. Very early morning walk;)! Before "normal" people come in, so he can enjoy some off leash time.

    How much exercise is enough?

My 2 cents - exercise as in “taking the dog out for walks” is probably one of the easiest parts. You get to turn off the worries of the world for an hour a couple of times a day, enjoy fresh air and a friend who loves you no matter what, get the blood flowing... what not to enjoy? Rain? Cold...

    Start of hiking season

After winter break, we went back up to the mountains today, were you can look down on flying birds, breathe fresh air, and best of all - let Miles enjoy 5 hrs off leash!

Spring! Walks are getting better and better.

What can be better than a walk by the lake on a warm Spring morning? Maybe sleeping late :) ... But can't have everything!

Owning a dog when working fulltime?

My 2 cents - I have a feeling that in general folks underestimate the time commitment having a dog really means. There may well be ways - arranging day care, etc.... And to some extend different dogs have different needs. But if life is such that you are away from home for most of the day...

    Importance of agility :-)

When your playmate weighs 140 lbs, and you are only 95 - fast legs will save the day :) Miles The Ridgeback and a Mastiff friend.

    Feeding twice a day

For my benefit - assuming the dog is happy and enthusiastic about his 3 meals each day, would there be any reason to switch?

    Is this going too far?

Right, that’s my fear... someone spots an off leash dog in a public area - and there is storm of condemnation from everyone and his grandmother on local social media outlets towards dog walkers. Yeah, we all get it - not everyone likes dogs, some people are afraid, there are some fearful /...

    Is this going too far?

The intent is probably good... but seems a bit extreme, no?
