Working Whippet Lines.

Sorry, im not up on whippet lines and breeds, just know of a basic few. :b

I have a none pedigree, but am doing homework on getting working kc reg whippet pup.

Mike Browns whippets are renowned workers i have tried & tested them in the field.

Laguna I have worked this line too Mike's whippets origanate from this line.

Shalfleet show stock i have worked a bitch from this line she was top class.

Barnsemore all the Irish lads rave about the working qualities this line have.

Moonlake Gays dogs had a good name in the coursing field im told she has lure coursed but shows mainly now.

Oakbark Without doubt some of the best whippets i have worked the bitches have it all the dogs are not as brave IMO.

Other Walkabout/Gorwynne/Savilepark/Stepaul/ good & bad in them all but i never seen a Gorwynne that would not work but Walkabout/Shalfleet/Barmoll/ & Gorwynne were almost the same blood.

I agree with the above post although the working lines seem to have a different mindsett to racers . my work bred whippet seems a lot more steady compared to my mental race bred dog but both excel out in the field.. :thumbsup:

My dogs do engage in "country pursuits" - not competitive and I don't write about it.

They are steady in the field but completely mental when lure-coursing (but they do follow closely once released).

Well thats great to hear Gay all whippets should be given the chance to take part in "country pursuits" if their owner wishes them too.

Its a pity you choose not to write about your working whippets as there is a vast following of working whippet enthusiasts out there waiting to read articles by people who have tried & tested the breed as a coursing/working dog. :thumbsup:

You perhaps should have qualified your poll by stipulating "English Lines."

Coursing is alive and well and infact increasing in the USA. The top racing breeders are also amongst the top race bred breeders.

Someof the top kennels that have been around in the USA for some thirty years are Windyglen, Kentfield and Lyth. There are some very good other breeders based mostly on these lines.

Some of my very early dogs were based on Shalfleet ,Laguna and Always, but then what whippets of to-day were not based on these lines? Show, race and working.

I agree with that. Although I also agree that most whippets are capable of showing, coursing or racing even if not at the top level, I think most people who do something with their whippets soon find out that breeding counts. When choosing a puppy its best to get one that been bred for a few generations for the discipline you're most interested in.
