Does anyone both work and race their non-peds. I know the general thought on the subject is that if you work your dog it won't chase the lure as hard, but i also know of some people who both work and race their dogs with a fair bit of success.

I myself have two dogs which are both around the 50lb mark. One of which i work and race, the other i race only.

Someone who had a pup off me works & races (not seriously) his. Apparently it's a great little working dog though from what my grandad says when he's been out with him.

I KNOW JOE WITH LAURANNA CATCHES THE ODD RABBIT OR TWO OR THREE  AS FOR MY OWN THEY ARE NEVER OFF THE LEAD ONLY WHEN THEY RACE :D

 mine are peddie racers and they can do both ........3 of mine have always been 100% on the track and have always given their all in each race  , but then there's Inca my fastest and smallest Whippet who has never really been bothered about racing  but she has the highest kill drive and is now a bit partial to a bit of deer or fox  ........but they do have regular rabbits etc......well what can i say it's a naturel diet :- "

Hi Strike, a whippet and a deer.....is there much of a difference in the size between the two?

While we are on this topic does anyone race or show their peds or non peds at lurcher shows?

 Yes a huge difference, but she's a determined little bitch and expects to land one one day  .......but i don't deliberatly let her go after them, and i now know the signs of her on the scent of a deer so i can stop her when i'm quick enough

Frampton country fair doe's a huge Lurcher, Terrier and fun dog show each year with lure coursing and racing that you can take part in :D .....it's a good day out with loads to do with the dogs and they all come back knackered (w00t) ........but they were no good at the Gundog scurry  something to do with retrieving and water (w00t)

Ahh now you wanna see my elz do the gundog scurry!!! Scurry champ she is :D

(w00t) Goes to show you Strike, there aren't many dogs about with the heart or determination of a whippet. When's the Frampton country fair on and where is it?

I used to do a fair bit of hunting and wouldn't buy a pup unless it's pedigree was loaded with whippet blood....it was just my preference....guess i just like dogs that look like real athletes, or as the general public say "look how skinny those dogs are".

I don't think that theres any Whippet out there as determined as my Inca who managed to finish off a fox by herself  (it's a shame that she can't race with as much determanation :( )......can anyone tell that Inca is 1/2 coursing bred ?? (w00t) .................Frampton is normally in September and is at Frampton on severn (funnily enough  ) by Gloucester, Gloucestershire .......hope this helps
