why no straight opens

Is everone else with a dog like mine that wont run the bends, looking at the calender and thinking its to long a break. No opens before the end of March crazy especially when the ground is nice and soft. then before you know it its september and back to the bends, must be sour grapes cos my dogs a tit roung corners.

There is one school of thought that thinks we run our racing calendar back to front. when the ground conditions (apart from frost) suit straight racing because it is soft (October to May) we run on sand bend tracks and when it is normaly hard on straight tracks (June to September) we could be running on sand tracks. Pete, why dont you make a few local enquiries to see how many racers would be up for a straight open in winter.

Well said Neil, Though I know Fordingbridge close in the winter which is where Jade would run her dog.

We have just closed Stevenage wrc throgh lack of support

we pay rent for the track stay open all yaer but get no support for club racing shame but there you go

I like to think of the lack of opens during the winter period as a chance to rest the dogs and ourselfs. After all most sports or hobbies have a period where the comptitors have a chance to rest.

i would love to travel to a "local" club but when local is 2 hours away it seems a bit to far to travel, the club that i race at doesnt stay open for the winter as most of the peope can run their dogs round the bends so our racing season ends in october and doesnt start again til march, this seems to be a long rest especially when the dogs that i am going to be racing against can race at there local clubs, and are already getting fit.

john i think that your right and the calender is around the wrong way but as said before by some people on other subjects if its not broke dont fix it unfortunately i dont think that anything will change

A few things to think about before racing the straights during the winter months. What condition would the tracks be in come the summer if we raced on them during the winter if they cut up they would be impossible to race on safely. Opens would be cancelled due to bad weather as we can never tell when winter arrives or finishes. Bend tracks are more suited to deal with bad weather for example sand running surface shealter cafe etc. Yes I like bend racing but I do most of my running on the straights but as has been said already if there is enough interest it might happen.
