Why do we have rules?

When I first registered my 1st pup I studied the rules that the BWRA sent me...I didn't want to make a mistake, and upset other racers.

Today I ran my dog, loaded him in the traps, walked the length of the track :( stood behind the ropes, only to see the owner of an opponent dog stand within the ropes and less than a foot from the lure line whilst the dogs were racing, only to step out of the way when the dogs approached the line, still on the track I might add...And, this happened more than once. Is this right?

Also, if you say my dog is 'right hand runner' should you be seeded left in a two dog final (when you're giving weight away), I don't understand that rule too.

This isn't a dig at anyone, but just a clarification of what the rules are. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Paul

People stepping out before races have finished, standing in front of the ropes & standing in front of traps before a race are all things that get right on my ****, again not having a dig at anyone but all the above could cause a serious injury the owners & dogs (usually not the dogs of the person in the wrong)!

If people doing this got threatened with their dogs being disqualified maybe they'd think twice.

I would just like to say that the person standing inside the ropes could have caused an accident...rules are put in force to try and stop accidents happening, if you see any one doing this in future tell an official, they will sort them out .... ???

If a dog is seeded right and is the same weight as your dog then it should be in the trap to your right, if the dog is heavier than your dog ie yours is 21lb and the other dog is 22lb then unfortunately it will be a yard behind yours to the left......... ???what is your dog called Paul.....

Thank you, my feelings exactly...but as newcomer it is kinda tough to say anything...but I will next time...no probs...

Paul

Jojess, please explain a bit more...If you're heavier you must go left? Even if your dog runs right?...Cos if your dog hits the lighter dog cos it wants to to see the lure by going right, this is OK?

Confused????

Paul

you have to get your dog out the traps faster than the dog behind you paul, i had a dog who used to be a bad right hand runner , she always went behind the dogs to go right luckily else she would have nocked them out the way...... ???

Sorry, Jojess, I think I got ya now...just confusing that's all, maybe I need a bit more schooling with my pup, he just goes so wide right he gives 3 yards away instantly, and then starting 5 behind, and finishing 3 behind is frustrating..but, he he's only a pup, he'll get there...still it's a great day out, and it's fun to learn...and the people are mostly great...

BTW

The pups name is Red Reign (Rory) he's a great dog to have around and thats the most important thing, ain't it really? Just wanna understand whats' going on thats all...

i agree with you there paul, he is only a pup he will learn, it was a great days racing and we thoroughly enjoyed it, introduce your selfg to people they will help all they can, see you at the champs........best of luck.........Pat B :D

Hi Paul, remember me ? :) How is your dog getting on, Whats his race name? See you soon

Hi Tanyia,

Thanks, my pup is doing great. A big tendency to go right, as I've mentioned but he's still a pup. Gave 5yds to the puppy dog dog champ (One biddi cushti?) and got beat bt 3yds, so I'm more than happy. As he is also 5 weeks younger and I'm only a beginner, but we love it, winning or losing...

Thanks all the same.

Paul

My dog runs pretty wide (right), she tends to do it more when in competition too (worst luck) & being a 30lber you usually end up giving a few yards away whilst your dog is trying to pass around the others plus the handicap as well but hey. The best dog i've ever seen for running wide was Montana i'm sure he used to skim the netting at Old Hall.

Sadly it's something that other than seeding you can't really do much about, with a bit of luck your pup might grow out of it.

Hi Paul, my hubby said Red Reign ran well, I wasnt sure if he was yours or not. :)
