need constant washing especially when they've rolled in fox poo and you need to carry a clothes brush around with you everywhere you go-

What a wonderful pile of whippets...I had never thought about the clothes thing...maybe I'll rethink my thoughts on parti-colours...wouldn't be able to wear any colour with a black whippet and a white whippet (w00t)Karen-Coral said:

We have a predominantely white dog and 3 brindle and white parti colours.
We got no whites in our litter sired by Frankie our white boy though

Unfortunately not-originally he broke it in January-he was doing really well the leg was perfectly straight and he was having regular hydrotherapy sessions-then in May-it broke again! he just twirled in the garden and we heard it go-the vet said we had all just been VERY unluckyJulie D said:

Anyhow he's a lovely, lovely boy and we will just have to see how he goes.
In hindsight he may well have been better off put to sleep-I know that sounds awful-but he's going to have a lot of issues/problems just socialising and stuff when his leg is finally mended.
We are/will be extremely anxious about letting him run free again.

aww the poor thing, that is really bad luck.
I can understand what you mean about being anxious about letting him run free, they go so fast and turn so quickly, but he'll want to run with all his mates won't he, fingers crossed it'll mend and be even stronger where the callous formation has grown over the break.
Their legs are fo fine boned anyway so you'll probably be able to feel the bump where it mends, at least he's not an only dog and he'll be well socialised with his own family :luck: :luck: :huggles:

nothing to do with the white dog issue, but I don't understand about putting a dog to sleep because of a broken leg; if it breaks a third time wouldn't amputation be an option? Most three-legged dogs adapt well from what I've seen.

Amputation is better on the hind legs rather than the front and that too is not without its problems-especially later on in life-saw a few of aputee's at our hydrotherapy sessions-Macha said:
and to be honest its heartbreaking to see a fit and active animal reduced to the position he is in now-without taking his leg off and watching him watch the rest of his family/pack run free.
Not really the issue but-the cost up to now is astronomical and its not over yet.
If it breaks again he will certainly be put to sleep-We can't go through anymore with him and I wouldn't wish him to either.

It is heartbreaking watching you dog , looking through a cage watching the pack living a normal life. Unless you have had a dog, break its leg twice and had the vet bill, having to look after it and the pain of a cage life,,and then after he's got the all clear to live a normal life and he breaks a leg again,,,it's bloddy dementing for all the family
I have had a dog who broke his leg, after 12 weeks of trying to save it, it was amputated, it was a front right leg, the cost in 1994 was almost £2000 and the dog died early as his good leg could no longer take the beeting day after day. If this dog had hurt his good front leg,,,just say 1 month after the operation, he would have had to be pts.
Karen I wish Barney all the best, I know just how it feels to watch your pup be in so much pain and the PAIN YOU FEEL ALSO :huggles:
Unless you go through a dog who has broken a leg or twice at a very young age (Colt was 5 months on his first leg break ) you dont know how it feels and yes I wish at time's Colt was pts the first time he broke his leg as it's not just the dog who goes through it,,the owners do too
As for white whippets,,,I have 2,,my Robbie who is white/ black parti, has had a white parti pup in all his litters. His children are doing the same,,eg Poppy who has just had a blue and a fawn, and a blue and a white / blue parti dog.
My Robbie is no longer at stud as his kids can produce the future champs now :thumbsup:
