Whippet X Chinese Crested

a 14" whippet -thats the same size as sid in my sig pic jack x and i thought my lurcher was diddy at 17", i wonder if the crested was a bald one or fluffy one -thats just weird but its not a lurcher unless its sighthound x working so anyone know what chinese cresteds are for? guarding herding etc

Chinese Crested dogs are originally from Africa where they were called "African Hairless Terriers." The ancient tribe of the Aztecs liked these dogs very much - and apparently they were used by them to warm their beds. They also did eat them. Chinese trading ships stopped along Africa on their routes and it was there that they picked up these dogs because they were excellent in controlling pests aboard their ships. They renamed these dogs to "Chinese Crested" and the name stuck since then.

I wondered if they were something to do with the Mexican Hairless????? What ever they are, crossing them with a whippets is a horrible idea. I suppose it is another designer dog that will sell for big money.

I love crested and thats what i want my next dog to be. been after one for a few years but the thougt of one crossed with a whippet no thanks there boths wondrefull breeds on there own but crossed Think i would pass that up

Don't Chinese Cresteds have a lot of problems with their teeth? The only two I know have been toothless from quite a young age - not a lot of use in a 'lurcher', I suppose they could gum the bunnies a bit.

I think these were most likely bred from a 'powderpuff' chinese crested which is covered with fluffy hair, not the one which is bald with a hairy head. I've seen the pics of the pups and some of them already have a thick coat of wavy hair, so I don't thik they'll suffer too much on that score. But it's a silly cross all the same
