Whippet Skin Condition - Spots And Sores - All Help And Suggestions Ap

My whippet appears to have a skin condtion where he has flaky skin, and some spots under his fur. A couple of small sores on his stomach also. He is still active, but has been drinking more. He regularly comes into contact with other dogs while out walking, but all jabs up to date. He is a pedigree, approx 1yr 5 mths old. Has not been bathed in around 1 1/2 weeks, and then with luke warm water (no soaps etc.)

Any help is appreciated.

Perhaps it is an allergy?

What is his diet?

Is his flea treatment up to date?

Any chance you could post a pic ... sounds like a superficial pyoderma (bacterial infection of the skin) but none of us should attempt diagnosis for you on the basis of just a description. If it is pyoderma your dog probably needs antibiotics. One of mine suffers with this intermittently (in his case it seems to be an allergic response but there are a number of possible causes). I can now treat his flare ups successfully with salt water and dilute tea tree oil applied alternately to the infected area a few times a day ... but his initial infection required antibiotics.

Skin conditions can be a real pain to diagnose, they can be so many things - allergy, mites, bacterial infection, fungal infection etc. It's really best to get them looked at by a vet sooner rather than later, as most of these conditions are much easier to treat if you catch them in early stages.

Hope you can get to the bottom of it and get it cleared up quickly :luck:

Years ago, I had a whippet who suffered periodic skin troubles which disappeared when our cat passed away. Think it was a reaction to cat fleas.

We use Epi-Soothe to bath Sam with and it has been very kind to his inflammed skin. E45 cream works wonders too but the diagnosis needs to be done first of course.
