Hi,

Can anyone recommend some good whippet / whippet racing books to read? I have a couple of old greyhound books from when I raced the lurchers - but am keen to get a whippet specific book or two...

Cheers

Mikey

Hi

I have 2 or 3 whippet books, but racing specific are rare to impossible!

Most of the whippet books have a section on racing - some are better than others!

Have a look on Amazon or ebay - there is usually something on offer there. :)

Try this one from Ann Vickserstaff ----> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Owners-Guide-W...4181&sr=1-2

Sorry Ann - forgot about you!

Edit: Pauline Wilson's book on whippet racing is on there - quite a surprise to see that one. Recommended.

I've just found a book by someone off here called 'The History of Pedigree Whippet Racing 1970-2010' Going to order a copy of that and also found one on amazon called the whippet or race dog from the 1900's..

Will get them both I think

Hi again Mikey - it depends on what you want the book for.

The History ... written by Rob Rixon, is exactly that. Rob has spent a long time putting together this book and (as I understand, as I haven't seen it yet) compiles records of all the past racing champions, stud dogs, Open winners etc. Which is of great interest to long standing racers.

The 1900 book you mention, is one I also have and is very informative about how dogs USED to be trained, but I question how much of it is still valid, what with advanced formula feeds, supplements and modern medicines.

If you are looking to gain knowledge as to how to go about training a race dog these days, I'd recommend Pauline's book

Like I said - if it's an interesting read you want then any of these should keep you entertained for a while :)
