Asking for advice on behalf of friends. They have a well behaved and generally calm 3 year old Doberman, Gracie. However when adults talk to each other or speak on the telephone the dog becomes very whiny and pestering for attention. Not so bad when in the house with just one adult, it seems to be worse when she's being ignored. If on the phone my friend puts her out of the room (so she can talk!) as Gracie is very loud and persistent. She then just whines on the other side of the door. Any advice on how to deal with this behaviour gratefully received.

Are there any toys she particularly likes, such as a Nylabone or treat ball? She could then just have them when the owner is on the phone. Another approach might be to teach her a good 'settle' on her bed and randomly throw her treats when someone is talking and she's not whining.
Making sure she gets enough physical and mental exercise may also help.

Oh my @Peegee she sounds just like a toddler after attention!
Maybe, if when she whines she is removed from the room for a few minutes and then can come back into the room again and praising when she's quiet. Repeating this process every time she whines. She may realise it's much better to be quiet and in the room than loud and out of the room!
